jigdiggy:

Just make sure you save all your gambling losses or losing tickets for this year.

You can then use 1040 Schedule A to claim your losses when you file your 1040 Federal tax return.

You will have to file that form because of your gambling winnings, No 1040EZ form ect.

Hopefully you will win lots of cash this year

It's pretty simple in Ohio, have the ticket validated at any store, they give you voucher that you take to a bank, and collect you're winnings along with W2-G. Part of the form included things like back child support and all the boxes had to be checked and notarized.

From start to finish it took me about an hour.

Everystate is different, for example here in mich i think you have to win more than $1100.00 before they take child support whereas if you owe to any state agency they take it right away.

When I claimed my $1,000 win, I noticed that the section authorizing them to take your photo was marked optional so I didn't sign it. They came back and offered me a free T-Shirt and a baseball hat if I signed. So if it's optional, hold out for more freebies. They cut the check there right on the spot and handed it to me before taking the picture. We had to set it down on a chair so that it wouldn't be in the picture as the W-2G form with it has your SSN on it.

On the small wins, they report... [ More ]

You should have a number you can call of the state that will tell you if there are any claims against you or not. I am from Kansas and had a friend that hit a 20,000 winner and the lottery gave him the number to call in advance to see if he was alright. Might ask your lottery first by phone to see if you can get the number ...if not try the state office. Dont know if this will hellp you but thats all I know.

Anyone that has won 5000 or less have any claiming tips or things to be careful of when you claim? I won 2,500 and am going to claim tomorrow, hoping I have no monies owed to florida state agencies. I heard all they are concerned of in other states is child support, student loans(i think) and irs debts. Also wondering if they will cut me a check tomorrow or i have to wait a couple days? I had a similar post on play4 forum, but not much help. I am thankful for the help i did get though.

I am
