The way I see it they had a choice.....take a chance and play to win or they could have chose not to play. Anyone who plays the lotto knows the odds are against them. In this case they chose to play anyway. I think that most people play in pools because they're afraid that if the pool wins they don't want to be left behind. It would have been nice if you did get a win

Well, raffles have the best odds of winning the top prize, but generally have terrible odds at winning any prize. Though Michigan's raffle is one of the better ones at overall odds at 1:99.7 (as opposed to say, 1 in 1,000). But even then, with 50 tickets, you're still looking at roughly 50/50 odds at getting anything back. So the best odds argument the lotteries use really is a misnomer, because it's only good when looking at the top prize odds in comparison to other games.

Well I was 5 off $500 prize. You're right. With something that big, better to have everyone just chip in a buck and not put too much faith on it.

The bad thing about a lottery pool is that most members are looking for a cheap way to win a lot of money, I'm surprised you got $20 from each of them. When they spent that much they were probably thinking it's a sure thing and were going be upset if they won less than they spent. Generally people who join lottery pools think $5 is over doing it. If you're willing to spend more than $5, you're probably better off going it alone.

So.... 50 of us employees bought 50 raffle tickets at $20 each. Raffles have the best odds, right? Wow! We didn't even win the lowest prize..... now everyone is blaming me because I was head of the lottery group. hhahahhhhahaa.
