Thanks Jack-C for clearing that up. The main thing that confused me was the LDR (Last Digit Root). To me the root was reducing to one digit, not just the last/least significant digit of the sum. I checked Deflate 3 here and see that the site admin calls the shortsum the Sum Last Digit. Now that's precise. It is just terminology I guess but can certainly be confusing. I think I'll stick to shortsum for now. Thanks again.

LDR and Shortsum are the same. LANTERN called it LDR but later he admitted he was wrong, but so many people were using it already!! It is the least significant digit of the sum of the numbers.

The Rootsum is when you keep reducing the sum down until you get one digit.

Hi all! Long time reader and first-time poster here needing clarification on something. Related to Pick3 games, I was under the impression that all the above in the subject heading were the same. Apparently I was wrong. At least according to LotSoftPro 5.0 LDR is just the last digit after summing the digits. I thought it was the last digit after reducing the sums of the digits to just one digit...the Rootsum?

Should I treat them as the same or different? Or is it just personal preference?
