megamillionaire is right: they withhold 25% for federal. I'd recommend you go back to the Jackpot Analysis page at USA Mega and scroll to the bottom and read the extensive notes there. They explain everything.

The top tax bracket is 35%, but the government only requires the lottery take at least 25% out up front. The rest they'll squeeze out of you when you pay your taxes the following year.

Im pretty sure the top federal witholding rate is 35% (nearly 40% if Obama gets his way). I highly doubt 25% will cover a lottery winner. According to that data, Id venture to guess that every lotto winner would end up owing...

O 's state has a 3% tax. Win in O 's state...

If you win in Illinois they take out 28%...

If you win in Wisconsin they take out 32.75%

their state rate is like over 13%, plus the fed top cap of 35% and we are at 48% highway robbery by the govt,

I know a lot of people have been asking about this, so I thought I'd post the info on the forums.

I have finished updating USA Mega (www.usamega.com) with all the new Powerball and Mega Millions states information.

In addition, I took the time to post some updates to the FAQ section and the How to Play pages, and some other minor things.
