I play them both. The only change is that I used to megaply MM every draw, but lately, I haven't played the powerplay or megaplier. I also teamed up with a co worker once a week on MM. I pick numbers and play all the numbers in the matrix. Costs $12 and we each kick in $6.

our office lottery pool is a little stretched now. we went from 25 tickets tuesday and friday to 12 for each powerball and mega million, then the remaining 2 dollars for the state lotto Monday and thursday. it also messed up the spreadsheet i use to manage the pool because it wont calculate powerball numbers,so we're going back to making copies for those. its a little annoying,but worth the shot because we dont change the numbers

The problem with both Powerball and MM is that they both draw money from the states' games--for those states that have jackpot games--as the multi state games tend to develop higher jackpots. Less of this money stays within the state to support the programs funded by state lotteries.

Okay ... let me rephrase that. In the Pick-3, you win 50% and the lottery keeps 50%. If the lottery gave you everything it could not survive. This is why I think 50% is a very fair payout for a win.

I will probably play both equally. If I start feeling like I'm spending too much money, I'll cut back to only playing whichever is higher. I only play Lotto TX when it's big.

For my pools, I'll play whichever one the pool was set up to play unless one is a great deal larger than the other. This is, however, causing me to buy tickets more often for the pools. I used to buy them for five draws at a time; now I may have to buy them for just two draws at a time to monitor the jackpot size.... [ More ]

overall i think it make me spend much more,

when both jackpots are below 100m, i just spend 1 buck on each, aka pocket change

once we get above 100m, i tend to spend anymore form 2 to 5$, record draws i go up to 30+ bucks per draw

so it wont effect my wallet more,

onless Both get to record highs, then i no doubt be spending a lot more over the year then if i just had 1 game to play

Today I was in a store and overheard the staff talking about trying to sale off some $3 in mistake tickets for MM so i told them i will buy even though it's only 20m jackpot. Somebody probably wanted to buy the PB instead but I am hoping to cash in big time on it

Living in Washington, I normally play Mega Millions. I played Powerball in Oregon when the jackpot got really big. Now that both are available in Washington, I don't have to make a special trip to Oregon. In regards to the poll, I picked Other since I will still play both games, but will limit my play to whichever games has the higher jackpot. So, as of today, I am playing only Powerball since Mega Millions was just won.

My permanent address is in Virginia and I am studying in Georgia, both of which have both games now. I have no intention of playing either game on any kind of frequent basis because the payouts for the lower prizes are completely unfair. I might play one of the two if the jackpot gets very high, though. If I do play, I invariably pick the Pick 3 because it is much easier to win the top prize and the payouts are completely fair.

It seems to me that you left out the most obvious and sensible choice: play whichever one has a bigger jackpot. If they're both really big I might play them both, but for the most part I'll just choose the bigger jackpot, though I'll probably also figure the odds into the decision. I'm roughly 10% more likely to win MM, so unless PB is at least 10% more there's no sensible reason to choose PB over MM.

I don't think the matrix would be the biggest problem with a national lotto game.

I'm just afraid it'll be like the national healthcare plan where you have to participate or you get fined and thrown in prison.

i was thinking that myself.they'll eventually merge into one huge lotto USA type of game or something down the line.there also might be a chance that eventually both games would want to go back to their respective states if things don't pan out.when i first heard that all the states were going to have both games i wondered why they tried this.i like that they did it but i wondered why they didn't do it sooner.....

because it's going to be difficult estimating how much will be played in the new states. Within a couple months the estimate will be closer to the actual prize. Had MM estimated the jackpot at $400 million and the payoff was $390 million, eyebrows would be raised. Both MM and PB probably use lower estimates so players won't question where the rest of the money went.

Powerplay and Megaplier only affect the secondary prizes and since each state lottery is responsible for secondary prize payoffs, it may take some time until each state lottery has that option. It's going to be interesting to see if the lotteries get increased revenues by adding the extra high jackpot game or will it be about the same after their other games show a decline in play.

Let's see, oh my head the pain.....$15 vs $115 million, and $250,000 for 5 + 0 vs $1,000,000.

Up to now, Powerball's jackpot has rarely been updated. This is a rare event but because there are a lot more players this drawing, the jackpot was increased from $107M to $115M. Also, the jackpot amount is estimated, it's not an exact amount. The jackpot amount advertised is no indication that the jackpot isn't getting bigger. For example, the record Mega Millions jackpot was estimated and advertised to be $370M, but when all was said and done, it had actually went to $390M.

I live on a border, and have always had the option of playing either or both. I'm about 8 miles from the border.

I play them based on their cash expectation value, meaning I tend to play less Powerball because the odds are longer and the cash/annuity ratio is much lower.

I play powerball when it's over 50M annuity, and Megamillions when it's over $35M annuity.

I will continue to do the same.

N.C. just got mm this week. The first draw i bought a qp with megaplier..nothing..lol..So, i wont be playing that again until the jackpot is higher and powerball i rarely play anyways..So it wont affect my spending habits that much at all.. I'll stick with pick 3 and 4

kinda disappointed that pot isn't getting any bigger. PB went from 107 to 115 since Sunday but was expecting increments to be more especailly on a 100 m pot. Maybe need to do more advertising fro casual players.

Am still waiting for Florida to get the Mega but its no problem for me the more the better!!!! I remember when we got the powerball and the news people were like isn't it going to hurt the Florida lotto, the problem with the lottery system here is that it doesn't get big as it use to be. It have been over 100 million in a long time.

Illinois has had Mega Millions and added Powerball. We haven't heard a thing yet about the Megaplier but I'm thinking it might have to happen just to compete.

Right now the MM jackpoot is $15,000,000 and the PB is $115,000,000. The buck that would have went to MM will become the Powerplay on the PB.

Let's see, oh my head the pain.....$15 vs $115 million, and $250,000 for 5 + 0 vs $1,000,000.

Kind of a no brainer.

Since we have Mega Millions in New Mexico, I am playing Powerball, too. I think I will purchase one or two tickets for Mega Millions with the Megaplier, and one or two tickets with Powerball with the Power Play. I probably will not play Hot Lotto as much -- unless it is a large jackpot.

Living near the TN/VA state line, I've been playing both games for some time now. I play the same numbers on both games on month-long multi-draws. I also occasionally buy a QP the day of the draw. The only difference now is adding the cost of the Megaplier on Mega Millions.

I play both games every draw regardless of either's jackpot amount. I'd be just as happy winning 12 million as 200 million.
