The opposite happened to me with Super lotto plus. My QP got 1+0 with the bonus number being one of the 5 regular ones! The one where I choose my own numbers got 1+1 so I made back the $2 I spent on the tickets.

I don't think one is better then the other, I think there is just a preference. I don't mind using quick picks sometimes, but usually, I get sets of numbers that...just don't look good. Yeah, I know that doesn't make sense logically and I know any set of numbers can come out, but that is how my mind works.

However, for me, I honestly prefer to choose my own numbers and I have won more money that way. I will sometimes add quick picks into the mix, but I tend to play my own number more.... [ More ]

Unfortunately not everyone that picks their own numbers uses number picking systems and as much as I hate QP's even a QP MAY give you a better spread of numbers than say a ticket made up of birthdays.

I would love to see the winners broken down this way........how many winners per every 1,000 tickets sold . (this number is an example) There would be a running total for QP's as well as SP's.

It makes perfect sense to me. Quick picks have strength in numbers. It could be anyone who wins, but if the majority of tickets sold are quick picks, then the majority of winners would be quick picks. One thing to consider is that some of those self picks are played over and over by the same player. They have a playslip filled with numbers and keep playing those numbers each drawing. Some people discount quick picks saying the only reason they win more is because they sell more.

But if number picking systems are truly better, wouldn't they outperform quick picks?

If 70% of tickets sold are quick picks and 70% of winners are quick picks while 30% of tickets sold are player picks and 30% of winners are player picks, aren't they both equal?

Wouldn't one method have to outperform its sales percentage in order to prove it's better than the other

Yes, I typically mix it up when I play. On average I like to play 2 QP, and 2 where I pick. But often times I find I just pick on 1 set and QP on 2 or 3.

However, now that the jackpot is getting over 100 mil, I tend to buy a few extra tickets.

When it starts getting over $200 Mil, thats when myself and 3 other guys at work pool together. First time we did this we won $100.

I have been keeping track of the jackpot games in IL for over the last 10 years and I will never buy another quick pick. I pick my own numbers. What I have found out, is that, even if they use multiple machines multiple sets of balls; the machines are man made patterns form. This is not only in IL, OH, but in WI as well. I think it's better to choose your own numbers! If you don't track numbers then I think it's better to choose numbers off the top off your head. This way at least you'll have a good spread of numbers.

I don't play lines that are a combo of birthdays, ages, favorite numbers etc. because like you I believe the chances of them all hitting together is very unlikely.

I don't like QP's and statistics can be very misleading

You do realize the terminal had only 5,560,464 combinations to pick a winner from while it had 189,688,590 combinations to pick a loser from? That is 18285 to 536 in favor of picking a loser. With those kinds of odds, it would have been hard for you to pick a winner and you have more brains than that terminal will ever have.

Yep, it's ALWAYS better to play your own numbers...especially when you understand how lotto works and what the numbers MUST do in accordance to where they currently are and where they're likely to go. A computer (QP) cannot do this and will actually increase your chances of losing in most cases. I learned too, Jim.

Well this story just happened to me.

I was in Memphis, TN on business last week. I picked up some Powerball slips from local convenience store, and read the instructions on back that said you did not have to fill in all white balls that you could QP some of them. So I ran my software and the numbers 07-08-18 came up strong. So I bought 25 draws with those three numbers, and let the computer QP the other two white balls, and powerball for the 02/17/2010 drawing. The results were 07-08-19-26-36... [ More ]

It's not that hard to write a loop that will print them all out if you don't mind using your computer and printer for a couple of days or you could just print them out to computer file. It would probably be easier to use a program that would give you the index number of the combinations and just keep a list of the ones that had won which would list of less than 10K.

I thought you were developing a system. I've been developing a system myself and if I was going to spend $50 on lottery tickets, I would try it over quick picks. Admittedly I wouldn't have to buy $50 worth of tickets to test it on 50 lines but I would hate to test it on 50 lines and find out later that had I played them for real I would have won big so I only test it on lines I plan to play.

Ya. Even with $50 worth of tickets, the odds are still astronomical and I shouldn't expect to win much. I rarely play that much on the lottery on a single drawing. I had $50 to gamble with and decided to with Powerball. Plus, the jackpot was huge. I don't do much on the weekends entertainment wise. If you're asking then you haven't gathered enough data or developed a system to convince yourself either way. whittling the odds down to 1 in a thousand isn't much, either.

just go with your hunch and be done with it, or you will go brain-dead looking for a sure-fire system - that doesn't exist.

I have a great system, but it only bags me two numbers every week or so, and that's not good enough.

It makes no difference. The majority won with QP's because the majority of them played QP's. About 70 to 80% of tickets sold are QP's and 70 to 80% of winners are QP's. The lottery selects winning numbers, and if your ticket has the same numbers you win whether you picked the numbers yourself or let the terminal choose them.
