Remember the Mid-90's TV show Sliders ? They had an episode about Future Lottery . You go to an ATM and type in what ever amount of money you want and it'll give it to you. The higher the amount, the more Lottery tickets you earn . If you win the lottery, you get millions of dollars plus execution.

I did see the parenthesis to Ambelamba but you did post as a reply to my post and the you is definitely second tense regardless of parenthesis. All the parenthesis did is suggest that there was a mistake in whose post you may have thought you were posting to. A simple parenthesis does not change who you are addressing and you need to change who you are addressing before using the pronoun you . You must have me confused with someone else. I'm not the one that started the downloadable skills thread nor have I posted about skills before or about being not happy. I was simply commenting on how the downloadable skills thread reminded me of a sci-fi short story that we studied in junior high.

What are the odds for that gas lotto? What are the prizes? Is it gas for life or just a full tank? I personally wouldn't play unless you always get back what you paid for the scratcher. But that would just defeat the purpose.

I was watching a TLC Lottery changed... that actually had win Red Sox tickets for life. That seemed like crap to me but I guess that was the hot ticket. The winner actually said it was better than winning 10 million dollars. Go figure, talk about to each his own

I think the way that short story put it was that he had to learn how to learn and that was more important than what he learned. It probably wasn't in so many words, probably more along the lines of the people who just received their knowledge and skills via the download simply could no longer imagine learning any other way hence it was necessary to identify the most promising candidates in a population and train them old school in order to still have a core of scholars able to push progress ahea... Guys...seriously, there are some jobs that requires years of training and on-the-job experience. Some people will kill to aqcuire such level of high educations with a push of a button.

Theres is a script to a Hollywood movie in there somewhere , but i wonder if a downloaded memory would be as good as a real memory. Biggest problem with this idea is: You'll have people out there that infect the knowledge downloads with viruses just as they do with computers. Can you imagine your brain just shutting down due to infection...and with no warning whatsoever?

Ideally, we should all hope that never becomes possible.

If there were no initiative or drive necessary to excel in any given field or endeavor humanity would of necessity become slothful and slug-like.

Kind of like a socialist state where everybody works for the government and there is no impetus to excel because everyone is treated the same regardless, unless you're a member of the ruling elite.

Well that's kinda disappointing.

I am an art major and I am not happy with my skill level. If there's a technology to DL skills, knowledge, and experience that would be awesome. And guess what, that's an instant, huge, life changing score for me.

Or winning a few million dollars in Super Lotto Plus won't hurt.

Just my opinion but I'll say no, at least no as far as most players who play now.

Lottery players are looking for an instant, huge, life changing score. If they make that score they may or may not keep working, but plenty of them that say they will keep working don't stay at it too long.

If the prize was education and experience it stilll might put people in a situation where the work is still drudgery, or what they thought would be their dream job turns out to be nothing like it.

I was wondering if it's possible to 'download' education and experience to the human brain. If this becomes possible then this will cause major chaos in the job market. Still, it can be really helpful if there's a demand for highly trained specialists. They can find the suitable candidates and inject the knowledge and experiences.
