Sad, but true. I used to work in the mental health field, and I met people who endured the worst that life can throw at you (mental illness, abuse, severe neglect, torture, addiction, injustice, etc). After work, I would come home and cry my eyes out. It's debatable if death is better for them, but without question, life for them, day in and day out, was unbearble hell. They would talk about suicide and dying all the time.

For some...like me being dead seems alot nicer than dealing with a life that continues to be a nightmare...no one should have to live like that...and when people are selfish and petty and have no concern for their fellow man...it makes one wonder what is the point in life at all.

I've read through all of the postings, and I am blown away at how hard it is for some people. One thing I have learned in my life is to never, never complain. My life isn't perfect, but I am grateful for the most basic of things--a supportive family, health, a steady job, and sitting down to dinner each evening. The boys deserve better than the cards they have been dealt with. They would not have everything they want but everything they NEED to grow up well adjusted.

You cannot help everybody obviously and no one is obligated to do anyone any favors here...helping someone would be a personal choice and for the safety of the parties involved would have to be done discretely.

A better strategy might be to decree yourself to win, that way you can be sure Jack Pot, THRUST and Badboy00z get somethings if you win because I doubt if one of them or some else wins they will be sharing.

Of course everyone @ LP wants to win the lottery; they/I certainly don't want to continue to play to keep losing; at one point eventually we/I will win and as to when that will happen is exactly anyone's guess--(are you listening Lottery Fairy??) ALthough my situation is nowhere dire as Thrust's situation, but I think I play for the same reason as everyone else on this forum - to better our lives and make the most life has to offer.

At least you were able to find a job outside of cooking. I don't have any other experience and even the entry level jobs that I apply to don't come through. Don't get me wrong, I loved going to culinary school and I had fun cooking but it just doesn't cut it. If I knew what I know now, I wouldn't have gone to culinary school right out of HS.

People go through rough times and there are some stories like that in this very thread, but unfortunately the lottery doesn't work on a deserve to win basis.

Once in a really blue moon so to speak such a story surfaces with a jackpot winner, but then there's the Jack Whitakers.

I agree with you Nino. I have my Associates in Pastry Arts from a Culinary school here in Pittsburgh. Let me tell you, if I had to do it all again, I wouldn't. Don't get me wrong, it was a great experience, but it's not as glamourous as your made to think. Once I graduated in 2000 I made minimum wage, so that didn't last for long. I started to play because my dying mother always wanted me to pick up some tickets for her. My brother was diagnosed with aml (acute myloid leukemia-15% survival rate if you can afford treatment). These cooking schools lure people with all kinds of promises then they go out into the real world with a debt of anywhere from 30-50K, which they'll never pay off on $12 an hour. And for every Emeril there's 10,000 saps chopping onions and on fryer duty for life.

I worked in the restaurant business for a while, and if I had a dollar for all the culinary school grads I met who regretted it I wouldn't have to play the powerball!

You only make good money if you're a head chef at a popular restaurant or a food network chef like Bobby Flay. The typical cooks make anywhere from $8-$14. You won't see higher than that very often unless it's some high end Michellin stared restaurant. The last job I had paid $12 which is about $23k before taxes. I think that is a bit higher than the average retail sales associate but the job is definitely more demanding. $23k is alright if you're living with your parents and trying to save mone... [ More ]

I thought professional cooks made good money. Does the pay really suck like that ? You must be making at least 30K+ to not qualify for financial aid or your either under 25 like me who's parents make to much for financial aid .....

It's basically an airport limo service. Not stretch limos, unless that's what you want to do, but If that's not your thing, find a car service that has nice sedans to drive folks around, mostly to the airport, and back to their residence.
