My clarification needs clarification...

Above, I should have said, In PA, you must win more than 2 Box bets in 166 to come out ahead, dollarwise. Beating odds and winning money are not the same thing. The Expected Value of a wager is the Probability of Winning multipled by the Payoff if you Win.

EV = P(WIN) * Payoff

This needs clarification...

Take a Box bet for P3. Odds are 1:166 for a str8 set. If you win more than once in 166 plays (bets) you beat the odds.

The odds for a Straight win are 1:1000. The odds for a Box win are 1:166. ( 1000/6 )

However, in PA a winning $1 Box ticket only pays $80.00, so you must do some SERIOUS selecting, or be extremely LUCKY to make money in this game over time. 80-166 equals an $86 LOSS over 166 $1 plays. In PA, you must win more than 2 Box bets in 166 plays to... [ More ]

A working system gives you a statistical advantage over house odds.

The house always has the advantage; it's how gambling works. But there are a few pick-3 bets where the payoff odds are pretty close to the odds against. If you played 4 digits each in any two digit positions and played all in the third, the odds against winning is 2.25 to 1 and the payoff is 2.125 to 1. Since the odds are based on any 4 random digits in any two positions, it's possible using some type of system to show a pro... [ More ]

Systems can hit once in a while or seemingly regularly. I say seemingly because even regular hits can be deceptive. For some reason, people can go into a trance and not realize it's not regular afterall. It sounds trivial, but you'd be surprised on the new discoveries of how the brain really works.

I think of a system that is successful, to be a system that creates positive cash flow on a long time scale, like one or two years. I personally don't believe the one or two people out there who kn... [ More ]

Since I only play pick5 and jackpot type games, I think of systems in terms of those type games. For me the time required to do a system work-up is too much for a daily game.

For me a system that works should increase your odds of winning and be within your budget to play. It doesn't have to make a profit continuously but it would be nice if it did.

For example PowerBall has odds of 1:195,249,054 of winning the jackpot and overall odds of 1:35 of winning a prize at all.
