for the big games my usual is $7 (sometimes $9) per draw. When it gets really high (over $100M after taxes), I've been known to double or triple it, depending on my mood.

I also will play the raffle style game $20 tickets that happen a couple of times a year. BUT... I think I've learned my lesson with that one, the last one we had (in july i think) it was 'extended' cause they hadnt sold all the tickets the hoped to (supposedly). I usually play 1 or 2 dollars a draw on the jackpot games for myself. I buy the tics for a pool at work, usually MM or PB, and I'll buy $10 for each draw, and if we win it's only 3 or 4 dollars. Of course, I hardly ever win anything just playing a dollar, but with the odds the way they are, I can't see spending $10 to maybe win a few bucks back, even though your chances increase with more tics. I play all the jackpot games, so I can't spend $5 or $10 a draw.

when the big drawings (mega or powerball) are up to 200 million or more, i have been known to do $100 or more on my own, plus $20 or more for an office pool. (years ago - i have wised up since then) and my average return rate on $100 worth of a big jackpot tickets is less than 10%.

those stupid illinois raffle tickets, the first one in particular - i did $200 on, didn't win a single thing.

they hada deal once here where for the month you got an extrra 25 game quick pick for every 25 game quick pick you bought.

so me and a pal went halves in $100 worth. by the end we got enough to buy 1 25 game ticvket, and got the extra, and didnt win on those 2.

prob should have spent $100 ea draw, but i am a cheap skate

i have spent up $300.00...my feeling is, if im going yo play, im voing to play!...i can't do yhis every week..however,..i have been trying so hard to get a lottery club together and i'm not having much luck with it at all!!..so that leaves me forking out more than i should sometimes..i do it because i believe in a system, and also i believe in myself...rkcustom

Most I ever spent on one drawing was $54. I had just cashed in my 401K. I won $820. Normally I play anywhere from $3 - $9 per drawing.

i saw someone mention a raffle, theres a hospital raffle here thats $100 a ticket, and 1st prize is a million dollars or a million dollar house.

theres several sports cars, motor bikes and other luxury goods. i always buy 1x$100 ticket in that ea year. and although the chances of winning something are only1 in 19. 61k tickets sold and 3131 prizes.

plus an early bird prize of an 2010 Aston Martin V8 Vantage Coupe

drawn tomorrow if all the tickets are sold out by then.

At the time I had $9,000 from a 401K that I cashed out. I back tested a Pick 3 system for the previous month using MID to MID, EVE to EVE, and finally MID AND EVE together as if there was only one drawing. I noticed a definite pattern, and the next day, Monday, I played a $1 COMBO on 9 different numbers. Each number was a $6 bet. I also had some other Any Order (Box) bets. I won $820 and had my picture hanging on the cash register for a long time. Should have stuck with that system! LOL

In California, we have whole families who pool their money to buy Lotto tickets (Naturally, I'm the poor schlep behind the guy who buys all those tickets, waiting patiently for half an hour) They may buy as many as 200 picks, which significantly improves the odds of winning something. I don't even worry about the Lotto or Mega drawings until they accrue 50 million dollar jackpot amounts. Even then, I'll buy 3 bucks worth just to say I played.

oh, and i won $0 because stupid me played all quick picks now I only play about $3 on each draw and play around with my numbers and the quick pick numbers.

I did work in the oil fields in So. Calif. for 20 yrs. and retired early. I moved to Nevada and was in a dirk bike accident and became disabled. I live nicely on my investments that I made in the late 70's and throughout the 80's and early 90's. I Thank my lucky stars I cashed them all out before the stock market crash. So I now live somewhat nice on the money I made from those investments and my SSD.

trying to get best chance of winning back the cost of your entry fee. we have a 7 from 45 draw with 2 bonus balls.

if i do 18 lines i get a 75% cover of 3 numbers. not a prize but 3+b is and covermaster doesnt take into account bonus balls.

prize for 3+b is around $15, and entry is $20. if i get 4 numbers which isnt beyond reason, prize is $20. covering the cost.

my pal and i just played this and got 3+b+b yeah thought it was 5 but it was 2 bonus balls, $13 back.

the main reason i spend upto the $20 i stated i do as max is i expect to break even or get at least most of my money back. usually in a 3+b winm, but i try and cut corners and dont usually cover all 38 balls, so sometimes miss out,. i think the most i spent once was $24 and didnt get a win, that was a wake up., but i only do that when pot has kept jackpotting for a long time,.

When did you ever have any thoughts of breaking even when playing a lottery? Whether you're spending a dollar or $20 at a time, over time unless you win 2nd prize or the top prize you'll be lucky to get 20% of your money back.

I once did better than breaking even when I matched 5of6 for $1500 in Ohio Super Lotto years ago but by the end of that year I was in the hole again by a dollar or two.

I haven't broke even in awhile, but, when I do, it will be triple what I spent, because, I'm going hard on 1 number. 428, combo, box, straight, lol.

More than often, I'll play, 428 str/box $1.00 for 7 draws, that's $14.00, because, I play it for midday and evening, for 7 days.
