Virginia's was called Match 3 . It went on sale Sep. 20, 1988. On the first day 5.5 million tickets were sold, with an estimated 91 players winning $5,000. Amazingly, 36.2 million tickets were sold in the first week

I think California's first scratcher was a $1.00 ticket called The Big Spin . If the playing field had 3 matching dollar amounts, you won that amount. If it had 3 Draw terms, you would mail it in for a chance to be on the Big Spin. If you had 3 Spin s, you were on your way to Hollywood to spin the Big Wheel, and the chance to win 3 million bucks
