At least with games like PowerBall and MegaMillions with odds of 1:39 and 1:46 of hitting the bonus number you're guaranteed a win if you play all the bonus numbers with 39 or 46 lines. If you're are in a pool playing at least 39 or 46 lines or playing that many lines on your own, you should at least cover all the bonus numbers to guarantee a win and reduce your lost to a maximum of $36 or $44.

The story about the Florida guy with seven minor jackpots spread across several games it appears his main strategy is to play a lot of tickets. He doesn't wheel so he likely makes up tickets out of numbers he likes and plays them for multiple draws. BobP

Well technically only 1 ticket is needed if you want to win a jackpot, but in reality I usually play 5 or so with a small wheel of a few numbers. My states jackpot game Multi Win Lotto; picks numbers for you so your basically guaranteed to lose unless you pick your own numbers.

I think the number of tickets to cover the overall odds of winning something is a good starting point. For a game like Ohio Rolling Cash5 (5/39) with a $1 prize for matching 2/5 would be 9 tickets. For a game like PowerBall (5/59+1/39) with a $3 prize for matching 0/5+1/39 would be 35. For a game like Ohio Classic Lotto(6/49) with 13,986,816 possible combinations and a $2 prize for matching 3/6 that would be 54 which explains why I don't play it very often because my budget is a maximum of $20... they could make the current batch of games 1c entry, by doing dsomething like make it drawnb order so its combinations not permutations.

they could have a seprate jackpot. for the penny game, and it may jackpot for 2 or 3 years before being won. but think of the wheels you could play for a penny a line?

I believe a minimum of 24 lines are needed to accommodate a realistic system of play.

Although only 1 ticket is needed to win the jackpot, that could happen within the next 20,000 years; but in the mean time I might as well try to win the lower tier prizes.

At $500. a draw for $52,000. a year, would take twenty years to put away a single million by saving the bet, so maybe some people want to take a crack at winning ten million or more, think of the thread as an intellectual excercise. To win the top prize since we have a Lotto, Pball, and Mega. I feel the minimum number is somewhere between 6 and 24 lines for the Lotto so maybe 15avg. lines ( I don't play MD Lotto cause it is a rip). For the Pball and Mega something btwn. 12 and 36 lines either game so maybe 20avg., .............. I believe the Mega Ball and Power Ball are the first numbers to be determined not the five of five. I hope I stayed on topic and not started preaching.

Once we have a valid working strategy, buying more tickets turns up the heat on the lottery.

Pick-5 eh? That explains it. CoverMaster in 29 I'm not sure, but in 32,31,30 yes no problem just check the Optimize box before Generating the wheel. I did a dozen runs in a minute and some were 30 combinations. Tried deleting one line from 30 and optimizing and am one off from 100%, you'll see what I mean.

if a ticket expiration date was: 1 year a person could hypothetically win the: PB or any jackpot from the free tickets...win lots of free tickets on some lotteries and in 1 year you could accumulate: 60,000 or in 3 years accumulate 400,000 tickets or buy people s free tickets, give them: 20 cents or 25 cents...No one is going to drive 2 miles, was $2 dollars on gas going and comming to redeem 1 SINGLE free ticket....

When I read your book I learned so much and was so inspired, but I soon realized that if I play with all the numbers in play there are still too many gaps and to play in that way would be similar to a child who is hoping to move a mountain with a spade and a bucket , so you have to reduce the playing field the question is by how much?

yeah i would have to agree covering all numbers inb the draw , so in my lotto thats all 45 numbers. i wouldnbt even consider the powerball.

basically multiply the games to cover 5/45 by 45 to get that too much, ill do some numbers

umm 9x45 to have everey number covered, and ea with the power ball so 405 lines to get 1 hit plus pball

tuesday lotto 7/45 = 7 tickets

pball 5/45 +1/45 = 405

mon/ wed/ sat 6/45 = 8 tickets

pools 6/38 = 7 tickets

The question here is how many tickets do you feel would be the ideal number to play in each draw to target a jackpot? When you make up your tickets, don't you ever get the feeling that if you could cover more numbers more ways you might be winning more and have a better shot at a jackpot? Something isn't right with your wheel or the description. CoverMaster makes a (12,6,3,3)=15 wheel and the Iliya Bluskov book Combinatorial Lottery Systems (Wheels) with Guaranteed Wins (available through the LotteryPost Amazon book store left column) has a 12 number wheel with two 3 number prizes. 2x(12,6,3,3)=22 and so 29 lines is a lot of extra lines.

This CoverMaster wheel guarantees both (12,6,3,3) and (12,6,4,6) in 15.

Depends on what you would call winning. It's not practical for most players to play enough lines to guarantee a winning ticket so most spend only what they can afford to lose, usually $1-$20 depending on the jackpot size.

Ohio has three jackpot style games Classic Lotto, MegaMillions and PowerBall.

Classic Lotto is a 6/49 game and the minimum win is a 3/6 for $2. To guarantee a winning combination of 3/6 I would have to play 163 lines even though the overall odds of having a winning ticket... [ More ]

One, the reason being that no matter what your method of number selection, from some high-tech software to a QP, when the six numbers you played are the six numbers drawn it was pure luck and nothing but luck.

If that wasn't the case, there would be a large number of jackpot winners here on LP. Oh, wait....

Of all the tickets played, of all the lines of numbers, only one wins, and for most draws there is no winner.

The number of combinations depends on the numbers in the wheel I generate using a personal workout.

If there are 9 numbers, which is usually the case, I play 5 combinations, which means each digit is played at twice.

If there are 12 numbers, I play 8 combinations. Each digit is used at least 3 times.

I usually play a 4 number wheel in the Pick 3 game. A $290 win with a $4 investment is a good choice, IMHO.

My game is Win for Life. I don't play everyday but when I do I use a wheel of 16 numbers, 38 combos. It's guarantee is 4 with 6 correct. I often win multiple 4 hits ($30 each) multiple 3 hits ($2), even when I don't actually pick all six. So I actual come out ahead, not by a lot but it's better than always losing.

well it depends what we mean by win. pull the jackpot, i dont think it can really be done.i sellected 100 tickets, and that would be so i can pull a 3+b back and recoup some of my bet.

consider i play a gurantee 3 hit; 50% of the time, for around $10 on 18 lines. 100 should be enough

although 100 lines would only be a 30% cover of 4out of 6

I voted 6, but in reality I like to play all the numbers in the matrix, which in Tx Lotto is 54. It takes 9 lines to play all the numbers, so every number is in play. This is more than I can spend because I play all the jackpot games, so I am mostly a one or two dollar player.

I selected 24 but actually it would be 29 for me. I would need to wheel 12 numbers and if I wanted to guarantee a 3 if 3 of 12 it would require 29 combos. So far this year I have gotten one 4+0 win, two 3+1 wins, and seventeen 3+0 wins in powerball playing a 3 if 3 of 12 wheel.
