A Cork resident has won 1m in this month's Prize Bonds Millionaire draw.

The bond, number MZ 21 78 45 was bought this year.

Up to 6,500 other prize bond holders also won various amounts.

By purchasing Irish Prize Bonds and UK Premium Bonds, you are assisting the UK and Irish economies. These Bonds were established, in the 1950s, for their treasuries to raise funds; and they need all the funds they can get get! So, while you might win, more importantly you are helping the old countries.

i also like them, i had a goal fo winning a prize every year, and started accumulating UK bonds. but with the economic cr4isis their interest rates suck now and i still dont get my yearly prize. maybe if things recover. but yea ea month im on with a chance at 1M so i cant complain , well wont if i ever win.

I like the bond system, where you buy bonds and your are in subsequent draws for as long as you hold the bonds. So, it is possible to win a prize years later. The prizes are smaller than lotteries, but you get more chances to win for you buck.

I have both Irish Prize Bonds and UK Premium Bonds, I like the idea that I might win a jackpot or large prize one day. I have only won a few small prizes so far, but someone has the win. The US Treasury should have similar bonds, it would raise billions of much-needed dollars.

yeah not sure about irish banks atm. the whole world is worried about irreland paying its debts so think ill skkip their prize bonds, noce prizes tho. i got UK premium bonds and wish i had cashed out when the GFC hit, the is on a road to no where.

over%25 loss in foreign exchznge rates form uk to oz , maybe when the world settles down i'll think about irish prize bonds,.but for now my money is staying here in oz.

Irish Prize Bonds have around 1.5 million in unclaimed prize bonds looking for an owner.

Each of these four tickets is worth around 20,000 but the prizes have gone unclaimed for as long as 19 years.

If the ticket holder dies, then the ticket gets passed on to their heirs and prizes start earning interest if they remain unclaimed for more than six months.
