Hawaii has anti-gambling laws on the books.

Why doesn't Wyoming just start a Pick-3 game? Prize is $500. Or are they afraid they're not going to find enough people to play to make it worthwhile?

Georgia's also in the Bible belt, but they've had a lottery since 1993 - and they've ALWAYS done Sunday drawings

In CA people are pretty creative with their vanity plates. Sometimes they're hard to figure out.

Yeah I see alot of initials too. And I have to laugh because here almost all vanity plates end with a number. My understanding is by putting a number at the end the cost is cheaper. In CA if there's a number at the end it's usually because the plate is already taken.

I do live on the PA/DE border, but on the PA side. I've always been told it's better to buy my tickets in PA, because under PA's lottery law, PA residents don't pay state or local taxes on winnings. I know Delaware offers the advantage of anonymity, but is there another reason I should choose to purchase my tickets in DE? If I win in DE, can't PA tax my winnings as income then

That's exactly what I meant by the phone numbers, three followed by four.

Yeah, some are not too creative, intials and birth day or birth month and year is another.

Re the license plates: Ha mine is a 3 number followed by 4 numbers so ya it looks like as phone number. What really gets me is the personalized plates alot of people have with their initials and house number. Not very creative.

Some state legislators in Arkansas have tried to repeal their lottery since it began. I wouldn't be surprised in states that earmark all their lottery profits to scholarship programs might be asking them selves if it's worth it too.

I used Hawaii because the other two warm weather non lottery choices are Mississippi and Alabama. It gets pretty cold in North Dakota and in the Summer time too.

I think just the ease of being able to travel to most locations would make people rather live in the contiguous US. Living in Hawaii you'd have to fly everywhere which is a lot more expensive than just driving (or if you ask Google Maps you can kayak from Honolulu to Seattle).

LOL when I read the post you responded to( here) I was thinking about Chicago. We have MM and PB but even if they made it dirt cheap to live here.......once I get out of here NOTHING could get me to move back. Oh and I wouldn't stay here for any of these reasons.

Yes, North Dakota. The cost of living is lower. If I lived in Hawaii, there's no way I could swim to California to buy tickets. Also, If I lived in North Dakota, I could win the lottery and THEN move to Hawaii! LOL.

well drugs is a problem everywhere. thats something that we cant stop. and many drug addicts look at drugs as something fun,healthy,natural, just like how many people are addicted to gambling. people are addicted.

i guess since drugs is such a problem in hawaii, they dont want to add to the problems by making lottery/gamblinga big problem in hawaii.

i do agree about nevada. they are a casino state and gambling is like a religion there. so they really do not need powerball or mega. and some of the casinos in vegas you can actually win a couple of million or more like you can on powerball.

Texas doesnt have casinos, and many states that dont have casinos will have mega and powerball.

Mississippi sucks. they are still living in the 17th century. so of course there backward minds will always have negative views about the lottery.

Alabama did vote on a lottery a couple of years ago I think. It was covered on this site, but the people voted against it. Mississippi has a lot of casinos, so those who want to play come across the border to Louisiana. If Powerball gets big again, we may have a lot of that again.

This is a wee bit more accurate:

Alabam: Bible belt , although they'll probably reach a point where they realize how many 'Bama dollars are going across the border to other states, Miississippi casinos, Tennessee Georgia lotteries, etc....

Alaska: Not sure here, remember the thread about the ex-con in alaska who won a jackpot? Was that in an Alaska lottery?

There are reasons why the other states don't have Lottery....

Alabama- You have to be able to count.

Alaska- You can't play any numbers cause ALL the numbers are cold.

Hawaii: They think ping pong balls is an appetizer made with a starchy binder and SPAM.

Mississippi: Lottery employees and their family members are not allowed to play the lottery. That leaves about 15 people left eligible to play in the whole state. Not a viable income source for the state.

Yeah, Nevada has 2 major casino towns. So far the best lottery state is Delaware. Not only no state tax, you get to remain anonymous

Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming.

Why? They have no Lotto. Although winning chances are slim. Playing the Lotto offers the chance to dream especially in tough economic times.

Lottos in most states go to benefit state education and scholarship programs too.
