Oh ya, what I thought was cool was the single number match for $500. Thing is though I had already scratched the prize first cause it was on the bottom and I was reverse symbol hunting, I guess you could say. I also think I meant to say third $500 since December 20th. Found a $50 bill on the sidewalk at 3am Sunday morning, a couple weeks ago. Spent it all on scratchers $5, $2, $3. Only win was $5 on a $3 game. Wow bad...

On August 26th I got 3/5 on Fantasy 5 for a $15 payout. I buy a $10 Mystery Crossword and hit $200! Hey omiller. I was lucky enough to find a 1k on the Christmas ticket last week! I couldn't believe they had a pack from 8 months ago in the bottom of the machine. They put it in an activated it last week so I immediately started playing through that roll knowing there were still two prizes worth a million dollars left. PA's odds are getting worse. There is a new $20 ticket coming out with odds of 1 in 3.59. Our $10 50X has the same odds. Our $20 Silver and Gold ticket from 2017 is 1 in 3.19.. No wonder no one is posting here and my normal store hasn't had a claim form in ages. I know hindsight is 20/20, but really wish I stopped last year when I got the new car. PA has been brutal. I hit $1000 on Jan 3rd and a few $500's on that green $30 about the same time. Nothing over $100 since. Its been beyond putrid. I haven't seen the store owner hanging anything up of late either. Been trying those $10 Fast Plays where the max win is $500.. Nothing over $20 on those either. Its really feels like they need to be audited cause comparing to years past it isn't even close and its not like years past were anything special.

On the 4th I bought 4 $5 tickets (3 different games) for $20 and won a $50 on Lady Luck and $20 on Super 7's. 2 days later I get 2 $5 Monopolys and hit a $25 prize: 2 10X $1 and a $5 match. I like this game. It s a good game. There s another one, a $25 dollar one here in NY called $7,000,000 Cash Blowout that just sold the last winning jackpot ticket today in NY. A lot of money, someone is very lucky. So if anybody reads this there are no more jackpot tickets for that game. The opened books will still be sold, but no more new books will be validated or opened or sold.

It's possible that if the store that cashed the ticket had similar issues or complaints, the security office could run a sting operation on them to see if they will cash clearly forged tickets or tickets on electronic devices (which is likely a violation of their lotto vendor license). If that's the case, the security office will be tight-lipped about providing any information until that is complete.

There have been similar stories with people posting concert/sporting event tickets online and scammers copying the bar codes to sell duplicated tickets. It would be a public service to let people know the dangers of posting tickets online. I wouldn't be surprised if the investigation took upwards of 90+ days because the store that cashed the ticket may be reluctant to fully cooperate.

These types of investigations can take a while to complete. If it were me, I would contact all of the local TV news stations and tell them what happened. I would approach it as you have a valid winning lottery ticket that the lottery is refusing to pay because they say someone claimed the money without having the ticket in hand. Our local stations have done several lottery related stories in the past.

I was only 19 when that happened. I'm in my 30s now and I understand how difficult it can be.

I am so sorry about your $500 loss, Matt. That is ridiculous if someone can claim your prize using a picture of your bar code, that possesses a huge security and integrity issue with their lottery games. For anyone reading, this is a good lesson to never post barcodes on the internet.

I agree with taking things a step further, and put a magnifying glass on the lottery if they don't do right by giving you that $500.

Also, regarding the lottery issue, once an official police report is made, that may trigger a real investigation by the Lottery officials. Also, try contacting your local TV news stations. They may do a news story on this which will help get the word out and could help your situation. It would also get the word out to everyone that this can happen. Hoping they will get this straightened out and you will get your $500...

Matt that's awful. Very sorry to hear that someone did that unfortunately I am not surprised I have seen this happen before there's a couple other guys that post on YouTube that have had their tickets/money cashed out before they even knew it was gone.

I still take pictures of my tickets but I haven't posted any in a long time. My rule of thumb was I always posted after I cash them just so someone couldn't be sneaky and actually get it before me.

Yes. Pa will let you go up to $600. You can then print the Cash Voucher(kinda like a casino ticket when you cash out a slot machine) and then take that to a lottery clerk to cash. Sometimes I do this when I want to just cash out quick next to work. I will get the voucher elsewhere and know that he will pay any amount up to $2500. Convenient when I want to get in and out without co workers seeing me with stacks of tickets.

You can get a cash voucher at certain machines, and then that voucher can be used to get the money. Don't even need the ticket. As omiller said, hard to tell if the thief did it that way or had an accomplice in a store.

Can you cash a $500 prize at a self-serve vending machine? Here in Illinois, the max you can claim is 20$, even thou they sell 30$ tickets, you can't cash one in.

They have new machines waiting to be installed in all the stores I've seen. but they haven't yet. Maybe they can handle a larger payout.

As for the thief, they might work at a vendor location or know a person that works there. Here, most places tear up the winning tickets and pitch them, so ne need for the original tick... [ More ]

Agree and the downfall of the self service machines. They are convenient, but can def be used for fraudulent activity like this. Since you never have to hand your ticket over to a lottery clerk to verify, anyone can steal a pic and cash it. Heck, maybe I will try it tomorrow to confirm.

I would def call back and get the date, location and time. Also with the location you can figure out if they have self service machines or you have to goto the lottery counter and hand someone your ticket . I am not sure if you call your local cops or the cops in the location of the ticket cashing though. Really sucks and hopefully you can get it back..

Yikes, that sucks. That's why I always blur out or remove the barcode from any pictures I upload. When VA came out with the new lotto app that you can scan tickets I tested it out by doing it on a picture I had on my computer and it worked.

Though the machines here won't let you cash anything over $50 and any bigger tickets I cashed at stores they always took them after paying out. I don't remember how it all works in PA. Hopefully you won't get screwed.

Agreed. However it hit me that someone could have taken the ticket to a Sheetz/Wawa with those self service machines. Held up a pic of the ticket and got it to scan and then printed the $500 receipt and took that somewhere to cash in..

Matt. Did they tell you were it was cashed? I am sure the cops would need to know that info to then goto the location and check cameras. Could literally have been on the other side of PA , but would be good to know the store and town to help you proceed.

They said I have to file a police report. Ridiculous! It was cashed on New Years Day so it must have been a scam from Facebook. I am so mad. I need the money and my dad is in home hospice care. I hope who did this gets caught

Uh oh, I think I was a victim of lottery fraud. I tried to cash my $500 today and it came up as already paid. It hasn't left my house since I got it, so I think posting the picture here or at Facebook would be the culprit. Unless it is a real error. I will never post open barcodes again on big wins. I should be able to get my $500 since I have the original and it would have been cashed by fraud.
