I have often thought of sending a winning ticket in the mail (especially an out of state ticket) but now I have changed my mind.

Never assume someone who starts ranting and raving about all their lottery knowledge knows what they are talking about.

Sometimes this is the equivalent of someone telling you what a great time they had at the 1994 World Series. There was no World Series, that was a strike year that canceled even the series.

I had a convenience store manager tell him he hit the Illinois Pick 3 26 times one year with 317 straight.

Gee, according to the Illinois lottery website it never happened.

I agree that cashing in person is best. However...

My experience over the years with mail service in several foreign countries causes me to put the US Postal Service on a pretty high pedestal. There are countries where the chances of anything beyond a Post Card reaching its destination unopened are about 50/50. The US is not one of them. If you really experience the stats in your post, you have a serious problem in your town that needs to be investigated.

You hit on a big one right there. There is absolutely no way in heck that I would mail a winning ticket to the lottery commission. I mean, the words [Your State] Lottery on the envelope is an advertisment for any unscrupulous handler.

Never assume the Post Office will deliver a winning ticket to the Lottery Office even though you paid them to do it.

The odds are about 50/50.

50% chance they'll lose it / deliver it to the wrong address.

50% chance they'll steal it.

Cash it in person.

You can't trust anyone one when it comes to money.. If you win a big jackpot friends,family,bleeding hearts with sad stories will try to burn you. Their has been to many jackpot winners lost it all with in just a few years( 4 to 6 years most of the time). Letting bottom feeders feed off them or going back to their bad habits . Never assume other people are looking out for you .

I remember reading a story or two about someone who won and had relied on someone getting them their tickets (usually their spouse and usually for personal picks) and the one who bought them saying something like I almost didn't buy them because he never wins but something told me to go ahead, he would have killed me if I didn't .

As for assuming you'll be the sole winner, I always think if I win that I'll be the only winner but it wouldn't bother me the slightest if someone else won as... [ More ]

ive had my mom play tickets for me before. but we have an agreement if we win anything big.

also where i buy my tickets. the terminal has a screen on the front that tells you if youve got a winner. and the terminal plays a jingle if youve won.. in addition theres a ticket checker that stands alone from the clerks terminal...

good points tho mm and pb seems to get multiple winners

Let's make a list, all games, of things players should never assume.

Never assume:

You will get your tickets in.

On certain days of the year some Pick 3 or Pick 4 numbers may get shut out.

Someone else will play a ticket for you.

Explains itself.

If you do get lucky and hit a jackpot it will be a solo hit.

Someone else could have the same set of winning numbers.

A clerk really knows what you want to play.

Lotto is just an additional thing they do as part of their job,... [ More ]
