I think its for book keeping/Security/tax purposes/audit purposes.

I notice the stores that sell big winners 600 will photocopy tickets and hang those up.

sometimes the secrets get out and those involved are fired, I think for the most part integrity is what you could call it.

Many stores seem to like hanging up past big winners.( $600) So I assume there is some kind of procedure or policy of the lotto commission mailing back the big scratcher winners to the selling store for display and marketing purposes? You could ask a store how they get back all those winners for display. But doesn't seem like the lotto commission retaining the big winners is a big issue.

could be, take pictures of the front and back.

Or put a winner under black light.

I dont buy the for security reasons not one bit. Maybe its the fear the winning algorithm would be cracked ?

Are there certain markings or codes which give it away if examined for a few hours that the lottery does not want you to know about
