What motivates you to choose a scratcher?

When I bought scratchers I did the research to see which ones had top prizes left. Texas came out with a $10 tic called Texas Lottery Black which has a million dollar top prize. I bought 3 of those at various times and never won anything so I decided I had enough. I haven't had much luck at all with scratchers this year.

I actually like the online games better because I like the anticipation of the drawing.

I usually ask the clerk for the newest tickets. Most of the time I lose on them. To day I asked the clerk at the Missouri State Line store to choose. I bought 2 $1 Sweet 7 tickets. Went back to the car gave my friend a ticket. He won $2. So I went back in got to more tickets of Sweet 7. We won again A free ticket. The free ticket won $4. We split the $4. He wante tickets I wanted the cash. As we were driving home I was wondering what would have been on those tickets I didn't buy

I agree with sully on the bright colors and ones that look like fun.

I'm with dallascowboys fan on new ones, I always hope when new ones come out that they'll be peppered with some winners more so than others but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Actually, there are only a few models of scratchers and everything else is variations on them......get three matching amounts, win that amount, match winning numbers (and the higher the ticket price the more winning numbers to match), bingo, cross... [ More ]

I agree with B$Rizzle.... I definitely don't want to play a game that has no Jackpot winners left it will be a waste of money.....which I don't have.....

So the prize seems to be the biggest motivator. In other words, is the prize sufficient to justify the risk of playing? Next, the game must be comprehendable and easy to play, which makes sense. Also, there are superstitous factors that vary from player to player.

Now for a more specific question:

What if I gave you a line of 5 different scratcher options, each one displaying only one different picture of the jackpot prize (i.e. one has a picture of a car, one a picture of a boat, one of s... [ More ]

Agree on all these points. I want to add that I also avoid any boring games that you have to triple check ( Casino Action )

One thing I enjoy is scratchers that offer the chance to hit a Win All symbol , a STAR or 10X symbols etc. Always fun to hit those.

I agree about the store part. May be a psychological thing but I always do bad if I have to wait in line forever , the cashier is annoying , people keep asking me how im doing or disturb me while I am scratching to get lotto slips.

Any of those newer type Publix stores also have that kind of turn off feeling to them. They place the machine so out in the open that everyone in the store can see what games you are playing then poach your a$$ ! I prefer the old stores where they have a seperate

I'm playing to preferably win 10,000 to 1Mil. I do look at well if I spend $5.00 I can win 100,00 but I would rather spend 10 or 20 for the chance for 1Mil. I care about the game, whether it scratches easy enough. Examples of games that I disliked immediately was Green Hornet, when I got two tickets and the first one had a row of my winning numbers' on the first ticket and on the 2nd ticket it had two rows of two (of which I didn't even see the second row for quite some time), I just thought tha... I just play for fun so I don't think I am interested in doing all that research. It probably makes more sense to do it that way, but I think what most attracts me to the games is if the cards are aesthically pleasing. Usually theres just so much stuff going on though I get overwhelmed.

I was wondering if you all make your selections based on logic, the lure of prizes, or something else. Let me know

The best way to narrow it down to make your selection easier:

* Find out # of Top Prizes remaining

* Find out how long its been since a top prize has been claimed

* Determine what your limit is $5, $10, $20 etc

Once you have the knowledge about the different games you can focus on just buying certain ones.

You dont want to buy a scratch off if there are 0 top prizes left for that game.

i said it before the one thing motivating me or someone to choose a scratcher is a huge jackpot like: $100 Million, $200 Million, $400 Million, $700 Million, where one person takes home: $700 million dollars and even $700 million dollars is not nice is better to divided it into: 7 times $100 Million dollars jackpot...but they know it all, they will not listen....

Aside from cost, I always have the most difficult time trying to decide what scratcher I want to play. It doesn't help that I feel rushed because of the people in line behind me either! So, are there any specific reasons why you choose the scratchers you do?

Is it the prizes offered, artwork/pictures, type of game, just random, or something else? What do you think could be done to make the process easier
