The fundamental April Fool s day joke: A reference to two calendars.

Below is one of many articles on the origins of April Fools Day. The most prevalent origin is an annual prank that was played upon people when the Gregorian calendar replaced the Julian calendar ~1582. April 1, was the old Julian calendar New Year s Day. Pranksters would visit friends April 1 to celebrate the new year in protest to the new, new year.

Spreading luck? The email indicated the only luck that would be rewarded was for those who spread the nonsense. There was nothing to signify in the text or in your initial post that a Chinese calendar was the basis for this illogical flame of reality.

As the original e-mail that I posted was based on Chinese Feng Shui it makes sense that it was based on the Chinese calendar.

The Megs Millions jackpot was pumped up and I was trying to spread a little luck.

Then rukiafae explained about it being based on the Chinese calendar, not ours.

I didn't know that, and obviously neither did a lot of others who went into flame mode, giving us all a history of how many months had five of the same days pf the week.

I fully understand what happened. An email (or you read it on the net) says the above is true. Other than a quest for truth, everyone (nearly everyone) forwards these things because they grab attention and are interesting trivia.

There are 7 months with 31 days - January, March, May, July, August, October, and December. In a 28-year period, each of these starts on a Friday 4 times. So, a month with 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays, and 5 Sundays actually occurs 28 times in 28 years (7 months with thirty-one days times 4 times in 28 years) - on average, once a year, sometimes multiple times in a year.

It is perfectly true that July 2011 has 5 Fridays, 5 Saturdays and 5 Sundays. However, such a combination occurs far more often than every 823 years. The last occurrence was in July 2005 while the next occurrence will take place in July 2016. Any month with 31 days that starts on Friday will have five Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as Coin Toss says. This year that happens in July, it probably happens every year in a different month. Something probably got lose in the translation from Chinese to English.
