That is the way it is suppose to be. If we are spending money on the lottery and we don't win BY LAW we are suppose to be able to write that off against any WINNINGS we have that year. I have not HAD to do that yet as all my over $600 wins have been on multiple tickets (hit $1500 but on 6 $250 tickets). But I keep ALL my losing tickets as the law says I CAN write them off. And in case of an audit, all the stores I bought from are on the way to work or close to home.

Try not to pay thay much attention to ridge..He's a drunk hillbilly and don't really know how to read a book..He's ok but just a drunk sloppy good natured slob..ridge is probably sleeping one off now i n the pigpen..Get well ridge there's more booze ah waiting for you...Gotta go but some more lotto ticket's so tiggs can throw'em in the trash..

The trouble with claiming scratch-offs is you need ,time and date of purchase receipt.But any of the print-out games are time dated ,and dollar for dollar when doing taxes.

I throw them in the trash.

Saving losing tickets in the hopes of claiming a percentage as a loss to be deducted for tax purposes is not worth it for me at this stage . I first have to win something to even consider it...lol...............

A 2 gallon storage bag from Dollar Tree works great.

And YES, I have deducted from my winnings.

When I won $1590 one year, I took enough to remove all my taxes. An amount like that was believe able.

When I won $10,000 I believe that I deducted $4,000........ Believeable too...

No questions.

rdg is correct. Losing tickets are consider loss betting wages with in the USA is tax deductable.OUr casinos carry a yearly report of win/loss sheets for those who sign up under a player program.

Yes you can accept losing tickets if they are tossed...bearer gave up rights when it was tossed...now if it was tossed in his glove box, do not go rootin for em, its still technically in their possession.

i have not been lucky enough to need to,but the irs knows how to look at this stuff,if i win say 50g on pic 5 on dec. 31 and have $364.00 of losers i can take it off the winnings. now as to picking tickets out of trash,valid ? won't work cause same applies to winning $ at the race track, if you're losers have footprints all over em you're in trouble.that is to say you're tickets need some kind of pattern,same #s over over ,same,store over over

Yes, you can deduct your losers (scratchers too), dollar for dollar from your winnings for the same current tax year. Whether the game is still active or not has no bearing on the tax situation.

Well I haven't won enough to be able to deduct any losing tickets yet. I need to take everyone's

advice and toss what's not a potential tax deduction though. What about instant tickets? Some

of them stay active across multiple years, at least in NJ they do. Can they be deducted $ for $

until the game closes?

have you seriously claimed them on your taxes and the IRS has never audited you. there must be a limit on them because I could just go and pick through all the losing tickets out of the trash.
