Decades of Dollars is a $2 game in Virginia and some other states I believe.

You can win $250,000 a year for 30 years and I don't think anybody has ever won the top prize as far as I know.

What this means to me is that with the new Powerball game, I will have a choice. I can spend $10 on Powerball with 5 chances to win bigger 2nd tier prizes, or $10 on Megamillions for 10 chances to win smaller 2nd tier prizes.

Probably not for too long. MM will folow suit and go to $2 also, making it $3 for the Megaplier. I think there was a post about it.

I've stood in a lot of lottery terminal lines, and I can't remember the last time I observed anyone purchase only one(1) Powerball or Megamillions ticket. Since my lottery outlet doesn't enforce payslips, my typical experience is waiting as people dictate long lists of numbers. And sadly, the people with the longest lists seem to be the ones most in need of a shave and/or a new pair of shoes!

My concerns are based on the cost of a ticket and not the payouts. The majority of players don't

win anything but are now asked to pay double. Most play for the JP and it is here that the game

is lop-sided. Playing 2 tickets as the game is now gives 1 in 97,634,527 for a JP and with the change

I think the math I read was wrong, I just made a paytable in excel and got a 19.71% return without powerplay, excluding the JP. And a 34.49% return with Powerplay excluding the JP.

I know Lottery players don't usually care much about statistics, but that generally makes Powerplay a worse bet IF you include the Jackpot in the statistics. Specifically, when the JP is at 45 million after cash option and taxes, then you can say statistically, Powerplay makes Powerball a worse bet.

I don't understand why anyone would be upset with this change. Currently, if you buy 10 MegaMillions OR Powerball tickets at a cost of $10, your expected return is $5, or 50% of your purchase price. Yeah, that news story had those 2 things in it, the 3 dollar prize is being raised to 4, and the 5+0 is being raised to a million.

My guess is that they either haven't decided all of the prizes, or haven't released all the info.

Personally I'm happy with the change, as long as the pay table doesn't suck. I believe that PB currently pays back like 48-49 percent of the $2 you spend back, not including the jackpot IF you use powerplay. If it's worse, I won't play, if it's better, I... [ More ]

I think that the people who don't mind are mostly QP players that just spend a few bucks

here and there. For a system player double the price is a little harder to handle. Spending

2 vs 1 is not that bad for a single ticket but going from 25 to 50 is just too much given the odds.

I think the odds are horrible on either of the games..MM, PB

Switching things around like they did would not make me want to play more..or run out and start playing every week either.

Were you able to find the information on the new prizes anywhere?

If so where, or what is the new prize structure?

All I know is the lowest prize is a dollar more and the 5+0 prize is a million.

I couldn't find anything on Powerplay except that it's probably going to be a fixed multiplier, multiplying different prizes by different amounts.

They made the 5+0 permanently a $1 million dollar winner now on a $2 ticket and it becomes a $2 million dollar winner with Powerplay for $3.

Right now I play the extra buck for the Powerplay and Megaplier on PB and MM.

Every time they show the drawing and mention someone won $10,000 or $100,000 you have just got to know that person is kicking themself in the butt for not playing another $1.

When those options make it a $3 ticket, I'll probably just play rhose games once a week.

It really depends on how they change the game. If for example, all the higher prizes get a boost of at least 2x the prize now, with the powerplay helping out even more, the probably, because I usually just buy one line, for 2 bucks now...

When I play the big games, then I play for $2. There's too much to lose, imho, without taking the Powerplay or Megaplier. The chances of winning are remote, but I still think it's possible or I wouldn't be playing. So I want to be covered if I am blessed with some kind of win, even if it isn't the jackpot.

For those of us that use the powerplay option there will be no difference in the price because matching 5 numbers now pays $1 million and will pay the same when the ticket price is raised. Buying $10 worth of tickets doesn't really change the odds much over buying $5 and in January we'll have 5 less tickets to throw into the trash for the same money.

If MM remains at $1 tickets the players will decide and we'll quickly see what they prefer by the volume of play.

I vary rarely buy tickets for PB or MM as things stand now.

Every so often I would toss a dollar away and purchase a quick pick. What's a dollar once a month or so? I lose more than that what with all the holes in my pockets.

When the cost is two dollars I will be having second thoughts. Two dollars buys coffee at Waffle House.
