I'm still not sure what specific game you are talking about but the prizes and odds in your example don't make sense.

Why would the odds be less to win $300,000 than $200,000? And why would the odds to win $300,000 be the same as the odds to win $100,000?

$100,000

1 in: 4,233,600.00

$200,000

1 in: 5,292,000.00

$300,000

1 in: 4,233,600.00

Now this is very important.

Also take into account the price of the ticket if you are buying something like a scratch off.

If you pay $20 for a ticket at 1:1,000,000 odds

and then you pay $1 for a ticket at 1:1,000,000 odds the effictive odds are 20 x better for the $1 ticket.

If the prize is the same, you would be much better off buying 20 $1 tickets.

Although it's not an exact science I take the prize cash value and divide by the odds abd divide that by the cost of the ticket. T... [ More ]

If three odds are what I listed and the tickets printed were 5,292,000 (assumption), then is my calculation correct? i.e. there would 1.25, 1 and 0.8 tickets respectively for 100k,200k and 300K.

this is not the total ticket print. You MUST know how many TOP PRIZES were available at beginning to find this imformation out!!!

Boney - actually NY has 2 of these games, an older and a newer. But it really doesnt matter because the OP in this thread is an unnappreciative prick that will never understand odds, even when someone points them out to him on a gold platter. This guy doesnt need to even be playing lottery when he can't do simple math after he asks a 5th grade quesiton like what does it mean when it says odds are 1 in 375,000??? My 3 year old would know the answer to that

For every 4,223,600 printed tickets, there is one winner of 100,000 and one of 300,000.

For every 5,292,000 printed tickets, there is one winner of 200,000.

That's what it means, it's approximately 100,000+ 3.5 winners for every 5,292,000 tickets printed, which doesn't really make sense so say about 7 winners for 100,000 dollars or higher for every 10,584,000 printed tickets.

If you know how many Top prizes were available when the game started, you just multiply that # x the odds. For example, if there were 10 Top Prizes of $300,000, then you Multiply 10 x 4,233,600 = 42,336,000 tickets printed for that game total.??

This is quite irrelevant.

My first post clearly spells out among how many tickets.

I have better odds of verifying whether my assertion is correct or not by 5th a grader math student.

I checked NY lottery website and see where it shows how many Top Prizes 2nd prizes have been claimed on that game.However I don't see anywhere on the site where it shows how many were available when the game started.

Basically if the odds are what you listed:

$100,000 1 in: 4,233,600.00

$200,000 1 in: 5,292,000.00

$300,000 1 in: 4,233,600.00

That means for every 4,233,600 tickets, one of those will be a winner of $100,000

Scratch-Offs have the Odds Info Printed on the back of the Ticket: In addition a Summary Sheet that explains the Games Odds should be available where you buy your Tickets. Have you reviewed the NY Lottery Website for the Game you are Playing
