Had the same thing happen to me many times. I'm also a member at the number one church in my town to fight against gambling in any form, so yes, I get those respones all the time. Especially when the jackpot gets really big. Of course they never ask my opinion on the matter because I would have to correct them biblically and they don't like to be corrected.

But I figure all those people who have won the jackpots had to go through it too. So I don't mind.

Yes. I've had people give me nasty looks. Nasty comments too!

The most recent was last week when I was buying Texas Lotto tickets. This guy on his way out of the service station door, turned back and asked me really rudely, You really think you are going to win? Then he laughed at me.

I try not to be confrontational so I ignored him. I'm a very small, short, and shy person. Heck, it took me two and a half years to make my first post here.

The store clerks were hostile, and it went beyond dirty looks when South Carolina first got a lottery. The NC people went down there in droves crossing the line, flooding the stores on the NC/SC line. I was one of them.

Why should they give you a dirty look? If anything, they should be happy. The more customers come in, the more money they make.

Gambling? I don't gamble - never have, never will. I play numbers like Stockbrokers and Investors purchase stocks in the Stock Market; but my way I get a much, much higher return on my investments and the yield is certainly much higher than any bank's interest rate, especially these days where interest rates are so low and bank service fees so high, you actually end up paying the bank to keep your money rather than the bank paying you to use your money.

That was me once. Pulled a straight/box the night before ($290) on the 3 digit, so I just went with $60 worth of QPs (120 tickets) the next day. People were furious. I even got told off by one guy.

Everyone gambles here (in a country where it's illegal for residents to do so), doctors, lawyers, indian chiefs! Today is Sunday and as soon as church is out, people flock to the number houses to play all the numbers they got from the church bulletins- and they come dressed in their church clothes!

This is an interesting question. This area, outskirts of the DFW metro area, has a high concentration of religious people, and the Southern Baptists are the worst about proclaiming condemnation. For the most part, I don't tend to get negative comments or dirty looks for buying lottery tickets.

However, I have noticed something interesting on the rare occasion that I feel like someone might be rolling their eyes at my lottery purchases...wondering if anyone else has noticed the same thing?

actually living in a small town, got dirty looks from the clerk in the only store to buy lotto tickets in that town.

they even had signs up please dont scratch scratchy cards instore as they had to clean up the mess made!

i eventually stopped going and waited till weekly shop in big town 70miles away, to buy. rather than give them my comission.

At the one Sheetz location I go to, you must wait in one of the two register lines, and when it's your turn, tell them lottery, then walk over to the lottery machine. I don't know how many times people behind me are rude or say I just want to get gas and the clerk will run back over and take their money. No one has ever said anything and no one has ever looked at me and given me a dirty look but I can sometimes sense that someone behind me in line has a snooty attitude.

So I'll usually get my ticket and then when I'm leaving, I'll stop and pause for a moment right next to the person and belch as loud as I possibly can and then smile and be on my way.

And believe me, I can belch really loud.

I live in an area where there's a pretty good population of a religion that thinks gambling is immoral and sinful, so I do see some holier than thou attitudes sometimes. Of course they don't turn down the money I'm giving to schools to educate their 5 or 8 kids they keep popping out.

When they say that, I just look on the back of the ticket and tell them the exact odds and thebn ask them, Did you know the odds?

I don't have problems with people because they don't want to get on my wrong side in public. I'm LOUD in public. Life is full of gambles, even without a financial attachment. Everytime you drive on the roadways you're gambling with potentials. Life is full of uncertain potentials, good and bad.

Next time they give you the look, just look right back at them and say... You gotta problem ?.....
