thanks, we were looking for a way of breaking down the numbers in to a combination and a permutation.

to work backward, you can recombined a combination and permutation like this:

if you have a combination like 1 2 3, then the numbers relate to the basic form, 1 = A, 2 = B, 3 = C.

next, if there is a particular permutation selected of the basic form A B C like C A B, then you would substitute each letter with the corresponding number; C A B becomes 3 1 2.

A while back we had posted a thread called The Combinatorics of a Permutation.

Unfortunately, some of the files linked in the post are broken due to A-Hole-L's shutdown of hosted files.

The copies seemed to be lost, but we found some files that we based them on.

We had a heck of a time reconstructing the files we posted.
