The first time I ever played lotto was in the year 2000 or 2001 (I can't remember exactly). However it was a $2 scratch off ticket (I think lucky 7's) and I got a hit for $2. At that time I was very young (10 or 11) but my Grandpa bought me that ticket. It was in my old neighborhood, Throgs Neck (an old deli that is now a house complex lol). First game I played was lotto in Orlando Fl at a 7-11. Didn't when a thing, then in 2005 was my first win on Play4 and it was $100.

yea' back then i remember them sayin the lottery would put the bookies out of business.

did't happen, just made it easier for them get the results out,

I have been interested in the winning numbers since I was 14 years old in 2000. However, I did not buy my first lottery tickets until I was 19. I played the Virginia Pick 3 on January 11, 2005. I remember playing 103, 104, and 017 among other numbers. I remember 116 won that afternoon.

Indeed Nipton was attracting people from Nevada.

Before Primm went up a lot of people, from Vegas were going to Nipton to play the Cal. lottery.

Real small town, real small.

One time the jackpot was way, way up and a freight train stopped, jamming traffic.

The engineer came out of the lotto place waving a ticket and everybody cheered!

Mine was at a 7-11 in the San Diego suburb of Escondido and it was the day they started the CA Super Lotto.

I think it was 1985 - I remember seeing a lot of girls with big hair and leggings and others dressed like Madonna.

i know that little place out in nipton,used to go there for tix whenever i was in vegas.

amazing they sold so many compared to places in the big cities.

had to be mostly people from nevada.

when i saw the place on the border next to primm,

i thought they prolly put that guy nearly out of biz.

In Jersey they used the last three dollar digits of the total handle at rotationg horse race tracks - so as not to allow any collusion. Maybe they still do, not sure.

in the 70's the bookmakers used the first 3 horses across the finish line at hialeah park--- today they use the night numbers that comes out here in MD

The first time I played a lottery in the U.S. was in Nipton, California.

From Wikipedia:

For many years, Nipton had the most lottery ticket sales in the state for the California State Lottery. When a new office opened nearby, immediately outside Primm, Nevada, Nipton lost its number one ranking, as Primm was easier and faster for Las Vegas residents and others to get to.

The stock market pick-3 was the first lottery I saw played using the last digits of the number of stocks going up, unchanged, and down. Some bookies used other digit sources and people used 123 workouts to pick their numbers. Though I didn't play, I heard the stories about people catching the number twenty times.

1991 in Riverside California. I got 4 out of six in the California Super lotto first time out. I have not gotten any closer since. I won 86 dollars that day. Not bad for a young A1C in the Air Force.

After WW-2 in Mannheim, Germany, 1948 after they changed from Reichs Marks to Deutsch Marks. There were no age restrictions to play the lottery or drink alcohol. I was 14 at the time.

My first lottery play was with sratchers in Missouri coz Kansas didn't have a lottery at the time. My friends and I were at the Missouri State Line convient store. I think the scratcher was a baseball theme. We went back home which I think we were 5 miles from the State Line. Sctatched the Ticket and won $72. I think when Kansas put in their lottery a lot of people at work were playing. I overheard somesay they had won $1,000. Wasn't me

It was oregon megabucks at TJ's superette in sheridan oregon in the year 1996. I play a dollar on the jackpot but lost. Now I don't even play megabucks anymore. Just powerball since then and now mega millions.-weshar75

For me it was Germany, the Hessen Lotto, in the early 1970s.

The drawings were on Saturday nights. I kind of learned German numbers from this.

For example, in English we say twenty-one, but in German it's ein und zwanzig (one and twenty).

It was a 6/49 Pick 6 game, but had a zu zat spielen, an extra play. Six for six took the jackpot but five + the zu zat spielen paid more than five of six
