Excel (Version 2002) 1000 Pick 3 Combinations file download:

In the Tab labeled 1000NumberList

Click cell P2. You will see the following formula:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(ISNUMBER(MATCH($L2:$N2,{12,21,13,31,23,32},0))))

You can change the {12,21,13,31,23,32} to any pairs you wish. The formula will match the number of times the 12,21,13,31,23,32 will occur in the Front Pair, Back Pair, and Side Pair for each combination.

In cell T2 you can click

What do you mean by, are arrived at mathematically ??

I don't believe there is any math involved....

in a pick 3 you can only choose 1 number in each position

if you have 2 numbers already there are only 10 other options for the last number 0-9

12X 1X2 X12 21X 2X1 X21 = 60 combos(6 repeats) 54

13X 1X3 X13 31X 3X1 X31 = 60 combos(6 repeats) 54

32X 3X2 X32 23X 2X3 X23 = 60 combos(6 repeats) 54

54 times 3 = 162 total combos=== 150 after repeats are removed

Thanks team profit. This helped a great deal..although I still would like to see how the 162 combos (it is 162,,,I verfied it manuallY) are arrived at mathematically.

I want to make combos using that must include 3 particular digits (say 1,2,3) in which all combos must include at least one pair from these 3 digits.

I thought it would be simply ((3*2)*10)*3=180 but when I test using a wheel I get combos that shouldn't be included.

IOW all combos must include the following pairs: 12, 21, 13, 31, 23, 32
