I feel that powerball jackpots will go to $100 millions and $200 millions so fast that we are not going to have any chance of playing mega millions.By the way the new powerball odds will be lower than current mega millions odds.Take a look at it on the questions and answers section in the powerball website.

Mega millions will have a hard time competing against powerball $40 millions starting jackpot next month unless they increase the starting jackpot to $40 millions too or merge with powerball to create a national lottery.

It will be interesting to see how it plays out because the players that are now spending $20 to get 20 PB tickets will only get 10. When the jackpots are about the same size, we'll probably see more people playing the $1 MM tickets.

I sure am playing - $12 mil or $212 mil - either would look nice deposited in an account with my name on it, even if it's only a paltry $4.5 mil after taxes. ;) Shoot, I'd have quite the grin from just hitting the first 5 numbers on either game. Anyway, I play several draws at once - usually buy tickets for a week or two.

Are you playing mega millions and powerball for 12/30/2011 and 12/31/2011? I know that having a shot at $12 millions and $25 millions do not motivate a lot of people to play, but it would be nice to hit small jackpots like these.

I am playing for those small jackpots, you never know. As for next year, i am going to wait until the new powerball changes go into effect to start playing again with my $60 budget.

No, if I have an extra $1 to play, I'd rather spend it on an extra ticket instead of the powerplay/megaplier. In the coming year, I'll still play 1 ticket picked, 1 ticket QP for each MM and PB draw. The extra $4 a week is within my budget.

I think it was in new jersey that lottery sales went way down because the areas that were playing the most were rarely winning any big jackpots.People will stop playing any game where they do not win at all, no matter how good the odds of winning are. We need more integrity in new York lottery games, let people win those big jackpots statewide new York lottery.

I thought that we were playing against chance pure and simple.The lottery in new york state is not a random game of chance because the areas that buy the most tickets are not winning the big jackpots.Buying more tickets gets you more shots at the target, but that is not happening in areas that play the most in new york state.

No, i am not going to long island to play the lottery.I prefer to play less and voice my opinions in order to bring some integrity to lottery games in new york state.

Can't win if you don't buy a ticket. I prefer the play more often for less lines approach. I'll take the jackpot, whatever size, so I'd rather play all the draws and not only when the jackpot grows large. I expect I'll spend at least $624 next year for MM and PB. That's one picked line and one QP line for each drawing. I throw smaller wins back into more QP tickets, not always for the same game though, but I don't count that in the budget. There wasn't much to get when this topic started because simple math tells us on a MM $60 annual budget, at the most you can only be in less than 60% of drawings. And that's the limit for playing more often for less lines . I have no clue what playing less often for less lines means because anything less than one line is zero and buying one ticket in less than 60 drawings means they didn't spend the entire $60 budget.

Cool, I do not play every draw either. On big lottery sometimes I am way off from a draw, get disgusted and wait it out for a long while, watch for a pattern to popup which I might be able to take advantage of.

I usually set minimum goals for each game. For example if I want to play my California Fantasy 5 game, my reasonable target goal is a 3 of 5 match. Payouts are usually about $15 to $20, therefore I might chase 20 to 30 draws, if I do not hit my goal, then I simply give up on the gam... [ More ]

For Thrifty's strategy to work, they should only buy tickets for drawings when a winning ticket is sold. There were 104 MM drawings the past year and only 11 produced a jackpot winner. There were 93 drawings when it didn't matter how many they bought because no winning ticket was sold. Hi THRIFTY, What game(s)? One big lotto game would be 104 draws. $60 does not sound like much elbow room.

One thing I do is to play pick3, roll over wins into the high odds games, and it seems to stretch my gambling bankroll further. Run some backtest scenarios and see how it might pan out.
