Very cool logic Jon. I am also watching the SFL $100 prize claims to gauge the rate of sales. It seems okay so far. What is your opinion ?

It can also depend on the amount of tickets sold and the current rate of ticket sales, not just the number of top tier prizes remaining.

Since CA lotto does not give as much detail on tickets sold as some other states, you can kind of guesstimate the number of tickets sold based on the number of $100 prizes claimed, and get an idea of rate of sales based on daily updates the top prizes report. New games and hot selling games are the best place to put your money.

Any of these ticket watchin... [ More ]

Thanks Jon. Very informative !

so as days go by if the number of higher end prizes remains high, then it means that the odds of anyone hitting a jackput also goes up...Correct

The ticket numbers come from the published odds for the game. The top prize odds are the easiest and most accurate to use. You have to calculate many numbers on your own since CA lotto doesn't put out very complete scratch ticket data, like TX lotto does for instance.

Initially $5 Set for Life came out with 25 of the $2M top prizes. Multiply by prize odds of 1-in-1,200,000: 25 x 1,200,000 = 30,000,000 tickets total.

Then later they updated the SFL published odds with 33 top prizes showing,... [ More ]

Thanks for info Jon. Appreciate it.

Just curious where did you get those numbers? I was actually looking for SFL same.. whats the criteria to issue 9.8 million again ? I mean the 30 million issued did not cover all the possible prizes

The total pool of tickets is normally fixed, but sometimes they do re-orders of some games.

Like the $5 Set for Life game originally was ordered with 30,000,000 tickets, but then they re-ordered another 9.8 million.

The published odds are still the same and does not change for any particular game. But that does not necessarily mean that all of those tickets are out there in stores or will ever be completely distributed to stores.

Lets say CA comes out with a scratchers game today with 100,000 tickets. Does the total number of tickets remain constant or does CA lottery board pump more scratchers into the system as days go by. I am asking because if the total number remains a constant then the chances of winning are higher as days go by and only a few of the big wins are claimed. what say
