Call me paranoid, but I think you have to give it a thought. If you jokingly say sure, you can have half, and then you do win isn't that a verbal contract? There are plenty of people who'd take you to court on that and try to get a cut, even if you don't win till a year or more later.

Interesting... I've never had a clerk say that to me. The most I'll get is a good luck and sometimes they will tell me about new sctratchers or recommend ones they like. That's about it. I'd probably just brush it off as a joke.. Unless they said remember me with an attitude or something..then I'd be a little ticked. But I go to the same 4 stores here and there and know which employees are bad eggs already and which ones are actually nice.

lottery retailers do not remember me as they earn 6% commission on my losses, and plenty markup on my impulse buys.

I don't know,I can not be that bothered by such a comment from a clerk. The way I see it, clerks are your allies.Most of us likely buy our tix from the same stores regularly and being friendly with the clerk can work to an advantage. Example: I generally stop into the same chain c-store every morning to pick up a couple scratch-offs on the way to work. The odds of you ever having to really give anyone a tip if you win the jackpot are the same as those of you actually winning a jackpot so why even give it a thought? After all, if you ever do win, you'll have more than just the clerk with their hands out.

I LOVE this reply!!! I'll have to remember it, however, no one has ever said anything to me except one clerk I was chatting with mentioned he'd really like a new Mustang. I told him if I won the millions, heck yeah I'd buy it for him!

Of course now, I'm realizing maybe I'm the reason these clerks are giving lip to the rest of you - now they expect it!

I'm sorry you have to talk to the real owner of the ticket is my response. That would be my two german shepherds. I don;'t think they would want to share thier steak with anyone.....

If they continue to press, then they are told to buy their own ticket! If they say something one more time, I note their name and write a letter to the own/manager letting them know why I will no longer give that store business and the name of the employee I dealt with.

LOL I got the same thing the other day when I cashed a $50 winner whoa what a win, share your luck a little she meant it as in give her a tip. I just brushed it off and left to another store.

Its one of the downsides of playing at big box grocery stores. the arrogant clerks you have to put up with. I usually take my business to privately owned convenience stores where whenever I make larger purchases the owner gets his 5% cut and I usually get a drink or two 'on the house' with my tics... Usually it's a clerk that asks for something if you win. Next time that happens just say if I win the jackpot then your store gets a bonus for selling the winning ticket and to take the request up with his/her boss. (That should keep them quiet!) Unless I happen to like the clerk than of course I would take care of them, but I wouldn't promise anything and I would not tell them the amount. I was in Circle K one time and a customer asked if I had won on my ticket that I had in my hand and I said that I was going to play these numbers. He proceeds to say when you win split it with me and I gave him a what the heck facial expression and said no. He left shortly after that because he was buying beer to drink. It ticked me off but I just got my ticket and left for home.-weshar75

I've never had a clerk say Remember me but once in a while I'll play a ticket for myself and the same ticket for them .....I say something like, This is for you, now I've got someone else rooting for the same numbers to come in .

That would also probably make a great story for the news, but I could also see it turning into a can of worms if all the other clerks in the store wanted in. But that would be their problem.

Those are the absolute last people I'd remember. I'll remember the ones that never say a word and need it a lot more than the overbearing,

arrogant, assuming people selling tickets behind the counter. These are the same ones that have a remark to make when someone turns in a

ticket that's worth more than $50. It's either 'whoa, that's a nice one' or 'wow, nice win'...or 'do I get a tip'? (pretty much the same as your

It seems more times than not when I buy a ticket the person selling me the ticket says Remember Me . What I say back to them is to give me 50 cents and we'll split the ticket. After that I usually get a variety of reasons why that won't happen. So far only 3 times did people drop 50 cents down in front of me. I then gave them a copy of the numbers and reassure them that I can be trusted. It would be a great story for the news if the ticket ever won.
