Another interesting point is that, historically, sales usually are high on the run following a near-record jackpot. However, that does not seem to be the case this time. Sales are lower than on any other run since the Powerball-Mega Millions cross-selling agreement (in absolute number of tickets sold). The first three rolls have been the minimum $10 million increase.

My betting hasn't changed. Still play my same #'s and EP's. My mindset is that if you have been playing certain number's for years, to just suddenly quit or cut back throws a monkey wrench into the grand scheme of things.

Stay the course, your numbers will eventually pay off.

Playing a lot less at $2 per ticket. But if the jackpot is large enough, I am willing to spend 4 cents at a shot at $2 million (cash and after taxes). That's right! My cost for a group play purchase of 1 ticket is only 4 cents.

Now that is a game well worth playing - 4 cents can win $2 million.

Many out there must be feeling the jolt of sticker shock.

Imagine going in and asking for 5 on the Powerball and find out you now have to cough up $10.00 instead of the usual $5.00.

Definitely cutting into my budget. Really it Is the principle of them doing this. I normally spend 10-15 on avg per draw on PB , MM and Tennessee cash.

Now I'm strictly sticking to only 1 - 3 tickets on PB. that's only $6 to them, max.

Hey I appreciate the notion, and it is nice to see less numbers on the slip. But doubling the price? For something 99% of us will never hit? I don't think so.

I've always felt my chances of winning one of the lower tier prizes was pretty good playing 10-20 lines using my system and $10-$20 minus that prizes amount was an acceptable lost in exchange for a chance to win the jackpot. Since Ohio has other games to choose from (Classic Lotto, Rolling Cash5 and MegaMillions), I'll still be able to do that.

I will have to agree with you, I have spent a fortune trying to win something on Powerball, all I have learned it is difficut to hit or well controlled. Looking at the new breakdown and fixed multiplier, I can't even look forward to matching 3 numbers with powerplay as difficult as that is, I might as well save me my money and in 3 or 4 it would feel like a win, the game might as well be a raffle where you win all or lose all. Yes it certainly does. I always knew I spent way too much on it than I had a right to anyway., So now I will have to cut my losses with timing my plays better. (Difficult to say the least.)

But the more I look at that fixed multiplier, the more I like it. And am still on the fence about how I will play it and keep my budget. Because I would really like to play it. I think if I could manage to play the powerplay, I could come out with more monies

It will be the same for me. I use to play with PowerPlay so it cost me $2 a line. Now I will play with out PowerPlay so it will still cost me $2 a line. If they would have left the PowerPlay alone and not gone to a fixed multiplier I might have still played PowerPlay for $3 but not now.

A similar debate broke out 15 years ago when most states raised their prices from 2 lines for a dollar to one line for a dollar. For a while a few players reduced that plays to five lines per game but if they were use to buying ten lines it wasn't long before they started buying 10 lines for $10.

Five years ago, Ohio tried selling their main game Lot'O Play for $2 a play and when it didn't sell so good they discontinued that game and came out with Classic Lotto for $1 a play and PowerBall wil... [ More ]
