as there are 46 balls in the barrel , the odds of 36 coming up next time are 1 in 46. , same as every other number. there's no magnet in ther repulsing 36, well at least i hope not.

now if you want 2 in a row, you mean whats the chance for the next 2 Mega balls to drop 36?

that would be 1 in 2116 ;ie 1/46 x 1/46.

That would only work if subscriptons are for the calendar year. I don't know about PB or other states, but NY offers subscriptions for MM that run for either 26 weeks or 52 weeks, and you can buy anytime. I'm sure the fine print allows them to cancel your subscription and give you a credit or a refund without having any particular reason.

regarding sales of tickets...i think MUSL is assuming(and hoping,and betting) that if somebody decides to play the MM instead of PB they will automatically play 2 MM tickets...as opposed to 1 PB ticket...if people do this the original sales cap agreement can be easily reached...but will this be the case? who knows...does this statment make sense to everybody? if the MM price increases to $2...people will not have the choice to opt volume over cost/prize payout increase.

I think they did the big powerball switch-over in january so that people with subscriptions of 2011 would end their subscriptions in december 2011 and not have deal with confusions and interruptions.

In the event this did happen maringoman, just as with the Powerball increase, you would be issued a refund or credit on your subscription.

I'm sure there must have been thousands of players who had subscriptions to Powerball when they hiked it to $2

If it happens then it will have to wait until 2013 because lots of people around the country buy MegaMillions year long subscription. I know that because I am one of them.

If they do bump it up to $2 then I will just stop playing MM altogether. I already quit powerball.

We have to remember there are states that offer both games and each state is responsible for the secondary prizes. If PB sales are down because of the price increase or lower than expect jackpot sizes, but if MM sales are up, it could be a wash or even more profitable when the MM jackpot is $100 million and rolls a couple of times.

If both games were $2 a ticket and both jackpots were at near minimum levels, it would affect ticket sales more in the states that offer have both games and becaus... [ More ]

I doubt that there will be a raise in prices...as MUSL is a joint venture.

there is an agreement on total sales made.

as long as MM sales + PB sales = (some previously agreed amount)

they will be happy.

if they rise the MM price and this causes

MM sales + PB sales to be (some previously agreed amount) ( i dont know how much...)

they will be as someone pointed out in a tizzy.

the PB sales will be a little down this draw because i could not get in my 3 or 4 million quick picks... [ More ]

and see that 7.2 mill was paid out in prizes. how much goes towards the jackpot and how much towards the prizes of lower divisions?

Why complain with $2. In UK the Euromillions had been increased to 2 + increased number of draw dates and just for kicks also increased the numbers to pick from.

Seems it will come to megamillions as well, but maybe one at a time.

Yeah it's slow for now. Just remember less than two weeks ago it was in the stratosphere at $364 million (third largest jackpot ever).

I predict if it rolls again, an increase of $14 million. As it it approaches $100 million, it should start climbing again in $20+ million increments.

This newly revamped Powerball is only about six weeks old. like a newborn infant infant, we need to give it a chance to first crawl, begin to walk....

In theory the $2 a pick sounds great but considering powerballs constant minimum increases so far (could there be another minimum increase tonight?) it might not work in the real world. I cant see the public supporting two $2 games seems like a lot of money to shell out each week.

It will take significant analysis of Mega Millions, Powerball and State Lotto trends after the Powerball increase to make a decision. That, couple with the implementation needs, make it extremely likely that it won't happen in 2012.

And I don't give that much credibility to Twitter where everything twittered must be fact. Hopefully the MM twitter speculators won't be twittering while driving.

What terms should I Google to find this information? I don't see any tweets from MUSL about a Mega Millions price increase (do they even have a Twitter feed?), don't see any articles about a Mega Millions price increase and can't find any industry buzz other than online forums posts by lottery players.

The only thing it affects is the jackpot threshold at which I start playing seriously, usually play $5.00 to $20.00; $40.00 at the most.

Casually I'll play $1.00 to $4.00 once in a while, but that will all go away once it goes up and I'll only play at the new threshold, $10,000,000,000.00.

Currently, I start playing seriously when it gets at or above $250,000,000.00.

From industry buzz and twitter from MUSL there has been speculation of a $1 increase. This is not an official statement from Mega Millions itself. As far as the May date, Through googling several articles about lottery price increases, this was a projected window of time that MM might consider implementing the increase.

I do not see why they have to switch to $2 a bet becuase mega millions is fine at $1. People still like to play for $1 and so do I. As you can see mega millions is growing just fine with $1 ticket sales. But if they do change I will play just my one line and hope for the best.-weshar75

It will definitely affect my playing. I won't drop out entirely, but will do just as I've done with PB since the increase - play mostly the state games instead and only play the multi-state game when the cash pot is very high.

I for one certainly hope that the MM doesn't increase in price, but it does seem very likely. I have always been a bigger fan of MM and if they change, I will probably spend the same money but will get less lines, same as I do for PB.

I heard on the radio yesterday that the Ohio Lottery reported that actual PB ticket sales are down slightly, but the dollar amount is up, which is what they expected.

seriosly, if MM was really in competition i would rearrange the prize structure to give $1m 2nd prize for the $1 bet. drop a low tier prize, like matching only PB to pay for it.

It's probably inevitable but for right now I think the $2 PB or $3PB w/ Powerplay is a marketing test.

I think the news release follow up story on Brad Duke 7 years or so after having won a jackpot was done to stumulate ticket sales.

PB and MM are both run by the MUSL, right? If so, it's just like cities vying for a new NFL franchise - the NFL knows it's going to be a money maker and really doesn't care too much what city gets the franchise.

I personally will continue to play as I always have in the past. Where I have usually picked up two lines on the MM, I will continue to do so.

You had to have seen the writing on the wall; MM wasn't about to just sit idly by when PB doubled its ticket prices. Enjoy the bargain basement prices while they last.

Speculation is that Mega Millions will be bumping up the cost of their tickets to follow the lead of Powerball to $2/ticket. Timing is not known exactly, expect by May of this year at latest.
