Actually there were 3 Mega Millions Jackpot winning tickets that share the $656 million Jackpot. They're Illinois, Kansas, and Maryland. If nobody had matched all 5 numbers plus the Mega Ball, it would have been $975 million. What do you think about my comment

That'd be so funny. Today at the Exxon Station the machine was printing and printing and the total was up to $700 and this lady was buying single tickets.. Do you think buying single tickets instead of blocks is better?? She was buying QP which is stupid.

Simple statistics. If it was all random, once 90% of combinations are in play there will only be 1 unused combination sold for every 10 tickets. When it gets to 95% it will be 1 in 20. At 99% it's only 1 in 100. There will still be 1.75 million unused combinations and selling another 100 million tickets would only use abut half of that. At a billion tickets it's close, but there will still be a few hundred thousand combinations that aren't played.

it annoys me as well. Not only the Lottery shows but the media as well just absolutely love to glorify the jackpots and what you could do with it. Up until a few years ago, jackpot winners were lucky just to net 1/3rd of the annuity prize.

If the MM jackpot rolls this Friday, I'm thinking more in line of 850-900 million (600-640 Cash).

First of all even if it was a billion dollars no one would ever actually win a billion dollars. That's what's so misleading about these jackpot numbers. After taxes it is so so less. If you watch any of those lottery shows they will always come on saying so and so won $50 million dollars! And then later on you learn they only got half or less than that. But they love to boast those big numbers before Uncle Sam gets his finger in the pie.

I am winning this Friday so that is the primary reason it won't reach a billion dollars. But if it were to roll over and approach that mark, I would not be surprised if Obama urged Congress to put a bill on his desk right away that would tax excessive lottery jackpot profits at a higher rate.
