They could, they would probably go to jail, but they could. OR they could hold a press conference AT the lottery headquarters and make a big to-do about turning it in, and ask the lottery officials - in front of the press - if, since a ticket is a bearer-instrument, if somehow they would qualify for some of it? and let the press deal with the mess.

Plus theres always a very slim chance that the person who signed the back of the ticket is somehow connected to the lottery and wouldn't be allowed to play. But got drunk and bought a ticket and signed it. lol

If I found the ticket, i'd write my name on it also and let the lottery work it out. However I would tell the truth about finding it with a name on it. When they asked me why I would write my name on it, i'd say because It said so on the back and I was afraid i'd lose it. lol...And when the rightful owner of the ticket saw the two signatures on the back, they might get the feeling of we are halfway there from splitting it anyway so why not.

What would happen if the rightful owner of the ticket had proof that you tried to extort money from them and that you willfully destroyed property worth $500 million? If you think your life sux now, just imagine how much worse it could be.
