Here in NSW, all winners are allowed to remain anonymous. Most keep their anonymity, it is very rare to hear the identity of a winner.

that was a long time ago, and i did that when i had nothing better to do.

sometimes when i get offers from credit card cos. (i get a lot of them)

I take the sales letter from one and put it in the postage free return envelope from the other one,

and vice/versa, they pay the postage, so i'm helping the post office.

now telemarketers are another breed, for which i have no mercy,

at least one time, one of them had the bad luck of calling me when i had nothin... [ More ]

Really? Is this a recent requirement because I have read many times on the California Lottery website where it says the winner wished to remain anonymous. The last two or three winners had only their first name and last initial listed in the media section. Why do you think it is a requirement that the winner's name has to be released

Some years back, someone, reporters i think, went in the dumpster,

in back of publishers clearing house and found thousands of entries in there un -opened.

you know what the envelope looks like, its got them little windows and you can tell if it has a subscription order w/out opening it.

one time i played a trick on em, i took the little stickers that look like the magazines,

and taped them inside the envelope at the window instead of on the order form so it would slip past t... [ More ]

Missouri here, and oh my, if you're a winner here, they'll publish your name, favorite food, favorite color, names of your pets, and give directions right to your front door. Worst state of all 50 as far as lottery privacy goes.

Although I truly do think it's a myth that lottery winners are bothered/harassed. If it is true, all you need to do is ditch your phones, e-mail addys, and move to some foreign country where you can live in anonymity.

Well I think if one can just take off for a year that is great but a lot of people (maybe most?)have ongoing commitments and could not do something like that in an instant. For example if you are an artist, you may have contractual commitments two years in the future and cannot just walk away and disappear if you win the lottery. I think it is good for the playing public to see the real, non-lottery employee people claim the winnings. Anyone who wins in Illinois should WANT to move after winning. I know I will, and on top of that I would go on a year long world tour. So good luck trying to catch up to me and beg me for a handout.

BTW do real people win Publishers Clearing House? You always see the ads before prize award, but never anything about the actual rewarding of the prize. So I just trash those mailings as soon... [ More ]

yea, oatman is one i been to, funny thing though, people back east think ghost town means no one is there.

but really it means the town is much smaller than in it's hayday,

fact is, a ghost is defined as a shadowy semblance of a former self

if the ppl. back here in the east knew this, they would relize detroit and philly are ghost towns, by definitation.

Cool magazine. I've been to most of those old ghost towns. Most of 'em you're lucky if you can find a foundation stone somewhere though.

There's still a lot of cool old towns that are still inhabited and retain a lot of the old structures and history though and haven't been yuppified like Cripple Creek Colorado and many other old towns like that.

Places like Tombstone and Oatman and Fort Apache (the fort itself) and Jerome and others.

AZ allows you to claim anonymously which I'm glad for. It does say this in the winners brochure though:

The Arizona Lottery is required to release the

winner s name, city of residence, game, and

amount won upon request, so total anonymity is

not possible.

If your home state is public disclosure, maryland and delaware are anonymous, get your advanced draws on MM and PB there.

if you buy tickets in jersey, get them in the northernmost counties of essex,hudson bergen, the 3 closest to NYC.

Have the last few OH winners gone public? If so, it's probably required.

You could try asking them with their online contact form. They don't always give a satisfactory answer, but you can try.

Here's Florida's Lottery FAQ section about anonymity :

Can Lottery winners remain anonymous? Answer---- No. Florida Lottery winners cannot remain anonymous. Florida law mandates that the Florida Lottery provide the winner s name, city of residence, game won, date won and amount won to any third party who requests the information; however Florida Lottery winners' home addresses and telephone numbers are confidential.

My state of South Carolina allows you to remain anonymous BUT if some news reporter or a very nosey person wants to know who actually won a lottery prize then they can request it because:

The South Carolina Freedom of Information Act provided under Chapter 4, Title 30, of the Code of Laws of South Carolina is a series of laws designed to guarantee that the public has access to public records of governmental bodies inSouth Carolina.

My state is public, they will stay public, cuz they can. And that is why I play in MA, where you can collect with a trust and NOT be 'public'. It's an easy choice here, the states are so close you can spit in CT and it completely miss RI and land in MA.

I'm currently back in Texas and they have where you can't claim anonymously but you can request limited coverage... so they release your name and where you won and nothing else. You can choose to claim via a trust though, which pretty much hides your identity.

Unfortunately for Tennesseans, they couldn't care less what we think or want.

They're still mad at us cuz we caught 'em cheating with the computers.

The last time I called to complain, the lady on the phone said she'd rather have a chronic yeast infection for ten years straight rather than talk to me again.
