yep, NY take 5 pay is cheap. .maybe because people are always winning on it perhaps. It's like every day or at least every other day someone is winning. Not just one but like 2 or 3 .. One time there was 8 winners in one night. I think it was last month, I was shocked... I play all the time and have never won. Maybe because I have used the same set of numbers for like 4 years. But I also do quick picks time to time because it seems 95 percent are quick pick winners. I also go out to Jersey to pl... [ More ]

The reason the lower tier prizes are what they are is so the jackpot and 2nd prize can be as high as they are. Can't have it both ways. Can't have high low tier prizes and big jackpots too. People play MM and PB for the jackpot prizes.

GHolnyuk,

Where are you getting this idea that the top prize for all games should be 25% of all the possible combinations?

The Lottery states that the prize pool for Take 5 is half of all sales and that the jackpot is 20% of the prize pool. That works out to 10% of sales. Their example assumes that every combination will be sold out, so the jackpot would be $57,575.70. That seems about right, if not a bit low for most drawings.

That is the reason why I play almost exclusively the 3-ball and the 4-ball. In most states, the prize is half the odds.

In Mega Millions, the odds of matching 4+0 are around 1 in 15,000 (greater than the odds of winning the top prize playing 4-ball), but the prize is only $150 (less than the prize of winning a 3-way box playing 3-ball). I feel that Mega Millions should be paying out at least $5000 for this.

Virginia's new Decades of Dollars game isn't too bad, with Match 5 odds 1... [ More ]

Take5's expected rate of return on 1st prize should be 575757 / 4 = $144k;However, it hardly ever reaches $100k. Mostly hovers at $50k, and often jp is split by 2 or even 4 resulting in $12-25k. Sometimes, it reaches $75k+, if only 1 jp winner.

Pick10 aint fair either as 8.9m / 4 $500k. But both have higher low prizes than MM, PB, Lotto, SM.

Numbers and Win4 payout fair amounts if playing box 0.50 as odds / 4 = payout. However, when MM and PB reach $45m, it's fair.

I play Lotto when jp... [ More ]
