Unfortunately, work kept me away from opening day at Del Mar this year. I had gone to opening day for several years in a row and it is great. But I usually wind up going at least two or three times each season so I'll just go later and it won't be as crowded.

Thanks for the tip on Eddessaknight - I'll check it out.

And thanks again for thinking of this contest and posting it - that was pretty cool to see the guesses and actuals converge.

Their surrent slogan is cool as ever which is cool, and previously they used an old/new juxtaposition in a commercial, with models of the Bing Crosby era and today's models, as well as video shots of the crowd at the track then and now. It was nicely done, and I'm actually getting deja vu, because I'm pretty sure we may be having an AARP conversation, meaning one that we already had and forgot. Or maybe it's just me, but I'm pretty sure about it.

Del Mar racing season opens tomorrow, so I'm just getting warmed up for it.

Plus, those are both pretty good names for thoroughbreds, although Haymaker would also be a good horse name - this horse makes its own hay, pretty convenient.

If electric outages are going to be that serious, a generator sounds like a good plan. I'm not sure whether we're allowed to name companies like this here, but in case it helps you or anyone else that may need one, years ago I researched it and found that Northern Tool had a large selection at good prices online.

According to my unofficial tally, you'll probably be the closest of all.

It looks like it may hit 2.5M some time tomorrow or the next day. At least from what I saw among all the guesses, you'll be the winner, although if it comes really soon, then Haymaker's original guess may be just as close.

His guess would be 5 days early and yours would be 5 days late if it happens tomorrow. How funny would it be for the hours and/or minutes to become the tiebreaker

I agree that Pete should be in, but to me an even bigger example is Shoeless Joe Jackson.

Third highest career Batting Average of all time at .356 and in the World Series games that he supposedly threw in the Black Sox scandal, he hit .375 and set a record for number of hits.
