Might be there a while before you win though...just there long enough to see someone

from the state you moved from (the one that did not allow anonymous claims) to win the big jackpot lol

To have someone else claim your ticket is ridiculous, once his or her name gets out their family

members are going to come out of the woodwork asking for money and once word gets out its not

really their money and they cashed it for someone else your name is exposed anyway!

Never seen people act like such cowards to collect a big check

In that case, I would recommend that you register with an online lottery website and place your bets online. This way, when you win the jackpot, your identity wont be revealed and you will recieve your money via secure online transaction in your registered wallet. Hope I was of some help...

Yes, you can give the ticket to someone else but make sure it is someone you absolutely trust not to screw you over. Google search, Etta Urquhart.

Good thought Kyok! Just keep in mind when your relative finishes paying all taxes on the jackpot, you then will have to pay similar taxes once

the balance is transferred over to you. In effect your being double taxed because of two separate individuals receiving the funds.

Of course your identity should be safe, but at a price.

o.k.. i got it.have a reative like a grandparent or parent claim the ticket for you(better if they live in a different state)once they get the check you can have them sign the check over to you or open up an account with you being authorized.and it needs to a relative that you have a trusting relationship with.but thats is just my plan.

People change their name all the time without any issues from the IRS. The IRS will get their 25% withholding, the additional 10% the following year and whatever taxes you may be responsible for. If there is any question in the future as to if you've paid all of your taxes, there will be a clear paper trail and everything has been documented. You will want to hire a lawyer no matter which option you choose.

Many here on LP say that after a jackpot you get hit with another 10% in taxes the following year.

With a created ID and no tax history for that ID there might be an awful lot of explaining to do.

Taxes would be a concern no matter how you decide to collect the prize but as for getting some level of anonymity, I was thinking someone could have their name legally changed and then get a new state ID. Once all of that has been done, sign the ticket with the new name. A downside would be the name change process would take about a month, and getting a new ID from the DMV would take another month.

Isn't that the most common occurence? Most states don't allow anonymity.

Any alias signed on the back of the ticket would have to be baceked up with ID, and good luck with the taxes.

That's how it works in our state, we have an Open Records Law, they will release the name and city of the

winner, that's it. Any more information they need the winners consent, you don't have to take picture or

attend a press conference.

What would I do? Collect the money and move on, no big deal for me!

for me this is a easy solution, when I find out that I won make copy of ticket. I tell maybe one person a trusted family member swear her to secrecy or she gets nothing, then contact a financial lawyer for legal advice, change my address to a po box no where near where I live, make reservations to leave town for a couple of weeks, go by a disguise or some type of fake beard etc. with a baseball cap and after a few days go claim the prize say very little in front of cameras and I'm out. For me the plan is simple. Have the house packed and in storage before ready to claim, (you have from 180 days to 1 year to claim your prize depending upon the state). Claim the prize and leave that state that day to visit family out of state. Purchase new home in another state under a trust or a corporation and live quietly like I like to.

What if you won Mega Millions or Powerball and you happen to live in a state that doesn't allow jackpot winners to collect anonymously? You talked to a lawyer and the laws in your state says that the name on the ticket is the name that will be published in newspapers, what would you do? In this scenario if you decide to collect the money, the press conference is optional.
