The comments I made were concerning one clerk in particular, that was referenced from a poster who claimed he was charging his customers 10%

of their winnings, to cash their tickets in. He actually gave the store location with specific directions.

This was by no means meant to be a reflection on the vast majority of the honest, good intentioned clerks, throughout this great land.

Suggested selling is a requirement of most clerk jobs. At my work they will suspend you for 3 days for not doing it.

He probably was using it as a joking manner. A lot of my customers who are regulars get annoyed by it. We try different ways to follow the rules and not tick people off.

Frankly I did dislike the practice. What percentage do they pay of your loss? None.

Knew a deli owner awhile ago that borrowed from lotto money to pay distributors. Payed it back at the end of the month. Not sure if you can still do this.

Almost all the clerks down south have been nice and call me hun , when i walk in. Not sure if it's the deodorant or they expect a cut if i win.

How about having a little fun with these crooked clerks?

After inquiring about their ticket cashing policies, flash an official looking badge. Then politely inform them that you are with the State Lottery

Commission, and you will be reporting your findings back to the State Attorneys Office.

As you leaving the surprised and panicked clerk, make sure you are grinning with delight and say, thanks for making my quota today

Anything $600 or less can be paid by ANY lottery retailer. You don't have to cash it where you bought it. You don't have to buy anything. That's just the clerk giving you

Im not too for sure but I dont think they can make u buy anything to get paid out...I think since they are a licenseed retailer they have to obide by the lottery parameters which is anything $500 and under can b cashed in at a licensed retailer..check with your state lottery commission on that..they might or might not lose their license...Let me know what happens on that one.

How much a store can pay out is, at least in part, determined by the lottery commission of the state you live in. Check your state's lottery website to see if any such limits apply in your state. In Oregon stores can pay out up to $600 won on one ticket. Over $600 and you have to go to the main lottery office to collect your winnings. That's odd, I get my tickets at Stewarts all the time and I rarely have problems. Once in a while I have to remind them to return my playslips after they scan them, but that's about it.

The last time NY had a raffle, I went in to get a ticket the day they went on sale and the clerk had to ask for help. She couldn't find the game on the machine; it turns out it was under an option for special .

To be honest I don't even understand how store owners don't have cash to cash in at least $250. We always cash in ppl and have enough. Unless its a couple $500 tickets like at least 3 we tell them to come in the evening and we go get the money. All these other places open up so many scratch books, more then they can sell and every wednesday you have to pay the company for the books you opened a couple weeks ago.

I'm amazed that some of these licensed lottery retailers can't even come up with $50, regardless of the time of day!

We don't have that problem in my area. I could cash in a $500 ticket right now, at any store in my area.

Why don't they have any money on hand? Must be the clerks are embezzling the cash throughout the day.

One day you are going to win more than 100 bucks. Find a place that will give you all your money. We had this problem once. Won $250.00 (got 50 in cash 200 in money order) never bought from that store again. Some stores don't have a lot of cash early in the morning. No harm in having more than 1 place to cash a ticket.

I hate it when the clerk yells out your lottery totals. We usually know the cost of our tickets or what we have won. The whole store does not need to know. That is why when I have a decent win, I wait until the crowds thin out before cashing in.

My dad has owned a place for about 11 years now and the we're always nice to our customers and often get tipped which is nice, cept the lady that won $2000 a week for life, she didnt give anything :(. But here's some stories from the clerk lol.

I'll be playing my numbers, 50/50 and do my trips last, and when I say 555 sometimes they say how do you want that or 50/50 still? maybe once I think someone felt so dumb and recovered and then said for .50 or 1.00 after they said 50/50 still? I won $500 on that supercash. I tipped her $50 anyway.

I had a clerk tell me there's no such things as a 50 cent Pick 3 (It's on the playslip in Illinois).

Most are decent though, but you can sure tell which ones are they themselves players and which ones aren't.

Lottery outlets that don't provide and playslips make me wonder.

I buy most of my tickets at the corner 7-11 which is family owned and operated. There are plenty of times I will walk in just

before the cutoff time and they will run my play slips through the machine even if there are other customers there. And I have

never had any trouble cashing winners. Just tonight, I went to pay for my tickets when I realized I left my wallet at home. It

was not a problem going home to get it and coming back.

The places I go won't usually pay out anything over $20. If I bring in a $40 scratcher winner I usually end up buying $20 worth of lotto in order to get paid. I make sure it's something I want, usually it's $10 for my 10 MM draws and then $10 worth of scratchers. I don't win $20+ often, nor do I play scratchers often, so this isn't an issue but once every few months.

I cashed in a $500 pick three ticket at a store that was new to me.

She very quickly plopped a pile of twenty dollar bills in front of me, and proceeded to wait on the next customer.
