I agree. For instance lets say you are about to play the lotto and had a wild hunch that 4 consecutive numbers were going to show like 22 23 24 25 and you tell your advid lottery friend and they give you their advice that it is not wise to play 4 consecutive numbers in a row because that rarely occurs ever and they give you their advice that you should save your money. And so you listen to their advice and save your money.

Anyhow, I would suggest that you maintain a positive attitude with it and don't set your expectations too high.

I think that really sums it up. Play within your means, stay positive and dont put all of your eggs (hopes and dreams) into the lottery basket. Once you change that mindset, hopefully it will become less of a letdown when you dont win. Best of luck

Many days I buy lottery tickets and either win a free ticket, or up to $10 or more, other days I don't win anything at all, and then I really get discouraged; as I would really like to win a jackpot or second prize, which would be big also;

On the days that I do get discouraged, I stop buying tickets for a couple of days, till I start to feel better, and i think of all the bad jobs out there that I have had, and that motivates me to buy another ticket..

That's probably why many of the lottery winners are older and retired. They've reached a point beyond where working to accomplish a dream is a reality and if they have some savings for the dreams that never happened they probably can afford an extra ticket or two without effecting their life style.

If you look at the winners stories, only 12 to 15 people win on average a year for say Powerball. The numbers are probably about the same for MM. You are far too invested in the games if losing tickets depress you as they are what's expected. This is how I justify playing the lottery.

1. I do not smoke cigarettes. Cigarettes budget to those who smoke regularly is over $1,000 a year.

2. Its a form of entertainment. Some people spend a lot of money at the movies every weekend..I rarely go to the movies

3. Its a small chance to win a lot of money. Nothing motivates a man than legit money he didnt work for.

Plus I keep a tight budget. I keep it under $20 a week.

I think that if you remember it is for fun you will have more fun with your entertainment budget because that is what most people do with their fun money. If you can't enjoy the lottery any more then do not play but I tried to quit too but saw those jackpots getting higher and decided to play. I have about 4 or 5 friends who are absolutely sure they will win the JP one day. Even after i tell them that 99.9999% of people who play will never win the JP in their lifetime, it doesn't phase them.

Btw, they spend up to 30 to 50 bucks or more a week on tickets.

As long as you are playing within your means, you need to look at this as pure entertainment only.

Any wins are just an added bonus.

If you are getting that depressed however, you might consider cutting back to just one game once a month. As you said yourself, the people who

rarely play are sometimes the ones to score that big jackpot.

Cold turkey could work for some, others could be even more depressed, in knowing that now they will never win anything.
