When it's all said and done, their prizes are just a fraction of what they advertise.

Factor in long annuities, much smaller lump sums, and fine print details, that are designed to keep as much of those prizes to themselves.

Biggest revenue maker for PCH, they sell billions in magazine subscriptions. They also peddle anything and everything from car wax to hair wax.

Powerball is not changing back to $1 tickets because they are raking it in on this $2 game. Just on this run alone they have not paid the $2 million and $1 million jackpot lower tier prizes like twice. It takes less time for the jackpot to get bigger than before and sure they have not hit a record jackpot. I got that idea from those scratch-off tickets.

The $1 tickets have one area to scratch-off and it takes about 10 seconds to figure out if you matched three symbols and won something.

The $20 tickets have five or more areas to scratch-off and several symbols and a bunch of number to match and it takes about 15 minutes to figure out if you won something. The prizes are larger but they cost more because it takes more time to figure out you lost.

If that was true, the state games would have more players. For example Ohio has Rolling Cash5(5/39) at $1/ticket with jackpots of $100k-$500K and Classic Lotto(6/49) at $1/ticket with a jackpot of $20.3M/$10.1M cash and PowerBall is still the big draw this week.

People are more interested in having a chance at a big jackpot then they are a smaller jackpot and will spend the extra dollar.
