I will get right back in it at 40,000,000 for Saturday. I play the mega millions, powerball and the state Lotto every drawing no matter the jackpot. I do like the starting jackpot of the powerball of 40 verses the 12 on the mega millions and my state starts at 1 it takes it forever to get anywhere.

The lack of $40 million winners is because they don't sell a lot of tickets for the starting jackpot. Sales don't really ramp up until it gets close to $100 million.

Typical sales at $40 and $50 million are about 11 to 12 million tickets. As a long term average we can expect that there will be 1 winning ticket for every 175 million tickets. That means that we should expect somebody to win a $40 million jackpot about 12 out of every 175 times, or once every 14 or 15 times.

I don't mind $40m or the $26m cash option. I play 3 jackpot lotteries 2x's per week, Mega, PB, Lotto. Going for the jackpot $. I sometimes play the Two-Step when it gets above $500k. Any of these would make an improvement.

Powerball lost a lot of my business when it went to $2. Price doubled, in yet the odds only went down 20 million combinations, down to the same odds as Mega Millions. I'd rather chase Hoosier Lotto than I would Powerball. It's only $1, plus the odds are only about 1 in 12 million as opposed to 1 in 175 million.

Looking at the powerball jackpots awarded since the inception of the $2 dollar ticket price, I couldn't find any 40 million dollar jackpot winners. Am I missing something here? Is it simply a lack of people playing because it is only a measly 40 million? I think it would be nice to see someone hit this, out of the radar, after this last powerball media frenzy.
