I think one thing that people overlook is retiring where your money goes further. If you were to win let's say 5 million dollars. Retiring in a retirement friendly country would be worth it.

I'd pay off all my bills..do some favors for family members and close friends...pay off my twin daughters' college loans, set money aside for them and my future grandchildren, hire a financial planner and have myself an allowance set to spend.....I'd like to keep a simple life...not very materialistic, but I do like nice things like everyone else....Main thing I'd enjoy doing is seeing the world, which is something I've never done...Heck, Ive never even been to Disney World.... I was thinking the same thing. Blue chip stock for some just get a spendable income, I want to invest in municipal bonds for the tax tree returns but probaly not. If I won in the mid 90's, it would be a lot easier but I couldn't play then.

Stories abound of people who retired with around a million invested who are worth less then a quarter of a million ten years later. Ouch!

If I won a million I think I'd just spread it across four banks and then look for some good investments where you can't really lose your shirt entirely if things go south and each small enough I'd never miss it.

I know people who convert cash to gold and put it in safe deposit in Jamaica. (among other places) The government cant touch it there, it grows in value, and its accessible even if you have to swim there to get it.

If you actually won would you invest it, put it in bank, or keep as much as you could cash? I was talking with some people at work and some family members about this, some said it's too risky to invest with the economy like it is and the huge deficit we have. A few of them said the government can just take it, so if you put a lot of it in t bills, municipal bonds etc. you could lose it all. Do they have a point or are they overreacting
