I rarely shop at Wal-Mart as the lines are extreme and the fruits, meats and vegetables are lacking to put it mildly ...plus the closest one too me is in a bad part of town. I do know they have great prices on frozen foods, cereals and personal care product as that is pretty much all I buy if I visit one.

Publix is a mile away from my neighborhood which makes it nice but I still prefer Fresh Market or Whole Foods.

Talking about meat from Walmart.....I just found out that they dont even cut their own meat...it comes precut and prewrapped from Cargill..or was it ConAgra?...I can't remember but it kinda threw me that they didn't even cut their own meats.....btw the way I found out was I asked them to cut a thick filet into two pieces and that's when the guy told me they didnt cut their own meat

Love HEB 3 Great store brand, decent prices, quality produce and meat, but best of all, great community member. Oh, and fresh made tortillas that are better than the other grocery stores in the area.

When they had the big wildfires here a couple years ago, HEB donated their mobile kitchen, manned and supplied to feed 1500 meals per day for the firefighters and volunteers. I actually was looking for some new stuff for the bathroom - drinking glass, toothbrush holder, soap dispenser. I looked in many places but could only find expensive, ceramic/metal versions. Not good for a young child.

I found exactly what I was looking for at Walmart - I was so happy, I went back and bought more for the other bathroom.

I'd probably still shop there. Face it, they are everywhere. We have Supercenters here and we have Wal Mart Neighborhood Market, a grocery store they operate. They've put a lot of stores out of business, including some of the chain grocery stores. We also shop at Target.

I try not to spend to much money, that's how I've always been. I just hate to spend money.

I'd still shop at my normal stores though... Whole Foods, Rite Aid, Trader Joes, CVS and 99 Cents Only. The only thing I'd change is I'd buy more of things I rarely get.

Very true, much like they don't care about the negative impact their Super Center's have on small town businesses and Mom Pop grocery stores. It would not be so bad if they would actually help get the local economy back up and running after they close down a non-profiting location. It's just ethical and would look very good on the corporate exec's.

I don't go to wal-mart now, there's one about 8 miles from me and the few times I went there I left empty handed and disappointed,

the place is dirty and poorly stocked.

I know ppl. that live within 3 mi. of it and they go to a different one, 15 mi. west of it, and say it's great, too far for me,I'll stick w/ sam's

but you see, the dirty store has givin me a first impression.

Good post! I do find SOME American made products but from what I understand they BEAT up every producer so bad that the producers make VERY LITTLE on what is sold there. WALMART is the one who makes the profit.

1. I 'd like to see a better living wage and more full time employment for their workers.

2. I'd like to see more women and minorities get the chance to move up in the company, and not just a photo op PR Stunt.

3. More American made products.

Oh, it's perfectly neat and clean and orderly.

The produce though? It usually looks fresh but it doesn't really matter if you bite into an apple, a peach, a plum or a tomato, cuz they all taste pretty much the same - like nothing. Their growers seem to have perfected the art of producing fruits and vegetables that look really good and have a long shelf life but somewhere in that process lose their flavor. I love Dollar Tree along with Honks which is a regional dollar store. Why pay $3 for a couple mouse batteries when I can get the same item at Dollar Tree for $1? If I had 20 million in the bank, I'd still go there. I'd also still go to WinCo for my main grocery shopping, but like others have said I'd splurge at gourmet stores for certain items.

There are some things you should never buy at a Walmart period. I brought a copy of TaxCut software and got a blank disk. I took it back and got another copy and it was blank too. After it happened three times, they said they had only a replacement policy and wouldn't refund my money and I would have to take it up HR Block who produced the disk.
