The only time that I have or would give lottery tickets as a gift if it's my girlfriend or wife. If she wins, I know I will get a piece of it too.

ahh we dont have vending machines. the scanners are the same Gtech ones ive seen on the news that dont scan correctly sometimes. i called our lotto headquaters ad mentioned the news story,. they said, they run their own software so should be any problems, but to check tickets myself if im at all worried.

In Idaho you can scan the barcode at the vending machines and it'll tell you how much it's worth, up to a certain value. I scanned a $100 ticket a few months ago and it just said to take it to a clerk. I would guess the cut off is $50 - if it's worth that or more, it won't give a value. Under $50 and it'll say it's worth $xx and tell you to scan it again if you want to apply the value to your balance in the machine.

here you have to scratch off the barcode to check if a scratchy is a winner.

i guess you could buy a dozen or so. and just scratch the barcodes and toss out the losers.

any you get as winners you stuff in stockings.

and you and the receiver still dont know what the prize will be!

hehehe i might actually do that for next year.

I think it would be very cool to have winning ticket , say it won some modest money, and while knowing it, give it as a gift, without revealing, of course. That is like double gift, because you offer the person all the excitement of realizing they won, on top of money. I doubt anything else can bit that.

Sometimes I put scratchers in hubby stocking, last year he won $50 on scratcher from Texathee didn't make it down there before Christmas this year so I wasn't able to get him any...

I only give lottery tickets as presents to MYSELF because I am making up for all of the dual Christmas / birthday presents I received growing up as well as never having had a birthday party thrown on my behalf (who wants to go to a birthday party when they have a load of Christmas presents under their tree and it is snowing and raining sleet outside?). Buy scratch tickets in a place where a clerk looks dumb, because if he is smart, he, probably, cracked them scratchies already and sells only empty ones or low win.

If it was one of those million dollars raffle tickets, you couldn't duplicate it since they all have unique numbers.

I would probably sign it too and re-gift it to them. After all, it's the thought not the gift that counts.

If somebody gave me a ticket with their name on the back as a gift, I'd go get a ticket with the same numbers and then burn the one with their name on it in front of them.

That's a money saving idea, giving lottery tickets for gifts after you've signed them, a gift that you can give and share too if it's worth anything.

I have bought several powerball or mega million tickets all with same number, taped to candy canes and hung on tree, guests that came christmas eve, received a ticket. everyone including myself had same number. one wins, we all win.

i have also bought an ohio raffle ticket for a couple people i'm close to at work, all our names go on ticket, i make copies and put in card.

I've given them as presents in the past on probably 2 or 3 occasions, but it was done during a really high jackpot. After reading about jackpots not being claimed from tickets that were probably given as Christmas gifts, I doubt giving them as gifts is something I will ever do again....

Yes I wouldn't give them as a featured gift but as stocking stuffers for my young adult children are perfectly fine. At least with them I would know if they hit a major jackpot they would give their old man a cut in appreciation.

I give them once in a while, but only $1 or $2 scratchers. The JP on those is usually low enough that if they won, I wouldn't be TOO upset that I didn't keep the ticket for myself.

I gave some to a woman in her birthday card several years ago. When she thanked me, she got all shifty eyed and hesitated before she said she didn't win anything. I don't like giving lottery tickets as presents. First because I think its not a thoughtful gift and more like a last minute thing. Also I don't give them out because I don't like to receive them as presents. Some people are so stupid that they would demand you to share with them any big wins from a ticket they gave you.

$1 to $10 scratchers........ I think for $20 and up they'd rather have the cash.

If anyone gives tickets for draw games as a gift it's a good idea to play the same numbers for yourself as it would eliminate some of the hassles savagegoose mentioned if it hit.

i did, but sometimes it doesnt seem to go down too well. One person asked me do I expect to get anything if tthe tickts a winner, and how do i feel about %10.?

i never really thought about it, and said its upto you, its your ticket. Personally i would give half to the family members there. and keep half myself.

tjhat was a few years ago, and i dont give them as presents anymore.

most people dont like them, and im not sure how i would feel if it actually won
