I'd report. The lottery will likely not do anything but they will have it on record and they'll see it if someone else makes a complaint/report (or you could be an addition to a list of complaints against him already).

Winnings aren't easy to come, and yet someone like clerk will try to snatch it away! There has to be undercover police checking those clerks' actions.

I seriously did not even know there was a read out screen until recently....I've been checking my numbers at the same store since forever and until a recent thread about some clerks and their vindictive ways, i asked a clerk at the store about customers being notified when a ticket is not a winner. He pointed to the display screen that is NOT visable to customers...They have huge potato chip racks in front of the small screen (which is separated ) from the actual number reading machine...Ahhh, c... no, i don't think they keep track unless it is over a certain amount then you must go to the Headquarters anyways to pick up your winnings everyones Happy.

Not trying to put down the majority of clerks, but there's enough of the minority who either don't play by the book, or who aren't trained on how to edit/fix, or just don't understand the basics of the pick-3 game.

I stopped getting mad because it's no use. I also make mistakes occasionally when filling out betslips, so i figured we're even.

Yep, and watch out for the ones who block the readout screen or turn it so you can't see it or turn down the music that's supposed to play when a winner is scanned.

I know a couple of places that do that kinda stuff and I won't spend a nickel on anything there anymore.

Well, how one watches what their hands are doing behind that huge machine? May be the clerk has pickpocketing techniques, no one will notice anything. I say come with the camera and later play it slow to see what was done. Also, camera might scare them from cheating you.

In Russia peope keep recording traffic police when they stop them, to avoid being ripped off for nothing.

If it required a club card I wouldn't use it.

But if anyone could just walk up and scan the ticket, I think it's a fabulous idea. Time to start emailing all the state lotteries and asking for it. So much better idea than the crappy self-scanners they have here in Idaho that won't even tell you how much a ticket is worth if it's over a hundred dollars.

I agree with everyone else, report him. He could be doing this every time someone with multiple tickets comes in. Most of us will think we added wrong by a dollar or two and just walk out rather than make a fuss, keep the line waiting, and potentially be embarrassed if we're wrong. A dollar or two doesn't sound like much, but if it's a busy lottery store he could be pocketing enough for a pizza for dinner every night which may be worth it to him.

yes, i would report them and also tell the manager then i would Tell the manager i was also going to let the Corporate Headquarters along with the Lottery Headquarters know of this situation this shouldn't be taken lightly. because like someone said if it has happen once it may happen again or has been happening to other people some people Can't check or don't check their tickets and just trust the clerks when they say it's not a winner and they walk away mainly elderly.

we scan our own tickets, we get the cashout voucher then we take it to the store clerk for the payout. everyones Happy!

Always sign your tickets and make a copy iF you can.

you can also mail them in, i have never had any problems mailing tickets in, they always send me my checks..

come on Lottery Headquarters you can sell Lottery tickets out of vending Machines let us (the people) cash out our own tickets, let me show you how

we scan our own tickets, we get the cashout voucher then we take it to the store clerk for the pay out.everyones Happy

Avoid misunderstandings by letting the clerk know up front that you want the terminal printed receipts, and then just keep an eye on them so they don't make any switches.

Keep your eye on them when you give them your ticket. I try to give my customers an unobstructed view of what I am doing, in order to avoid any accusations or something of the sort. We keep the paid out lottery tickets until the following monday, then we just trash them.

Just a thought from my experience: I cash lottery at my job, and 100% of the time it is the customer who is mistaken when they thought they won a certain amount but didn't.

Report him to the store manager or owner and also to the State Lottery.

Which state lottery doesn't require winners to be kept by the retailer as back up? Sounds suspect to me. Finding a completely trustworthy clerk is very important much like finding a good honest mechanic. I always go to the same store and have a good rapport with several of the clerks as I'm in there 4-5 times per week for tickets and other items. Good for Token calling this guy out AND knowing the value of his winning tickets.

I think lottery stores should have a policy that no used scratch tickets be kept at the store for any reason, they should be all returned to people. If anything, they should notify people if tickets are eligible for second chance draw.

Yeah everybody when this happens you need to report them....especially to the store OWNER....because its him who can lose his lottery retailer's liscense...and that's business and believe me they don't want to lose that or even be known for a store that's ripping people off...that's bad for business too...

I had a 2 dollar winner and gave it to the clerk she scanned it and said it wasn't a winner. I questioned her and she kinda got snooty with me, I took the print out saying not a winner and the ticket back. Later I looked at the barcode and was a completely different number. I went to another store and the click informs me it was already paid. I was pissed. I did call the lottery headquarters and they suggested I call the store manager. Definitely report him. Customers should be responsible ( means to respond to situation), instead of letting things slide until someone is ripped off big time, and it might be you. there is always voice in your head when things aren't right. How he got $6 on a machine if it was $7? It's because he scanned different ticket, perhaps one he scammed another customer off. Then he could scan your not scanned $3.00 ticket for someone's $4 ticket, and so on. This way gradually he'd have an expensive tick... [ More ]

You did the right thing in going back and insisting to get your money. However, you almost messed up by leaving the store. What if he told you he ripped apart the ticket soon after you left? I am not sure about this but I always thought that after the ticket has been scanned it ceases to have any value and that is why stores in MA love to display them near the counter to entice customers to buy scratchers.

When you cash a winning ticket here in Maryland the machine kicks out two receipts. One retailer copy, one customer copy.

Ask for your copy.

I would report him. If he's cheating cutomers on the scratch offs, no doubt he's doing it on other games too. If it was an

honest mistake on his part he would have apologized. Which he didn't.

Hey token-I wouldn't report over a $1 but I would definitely not go back to the same store-also I used to work as a clerk and when there is a winning ticket it prints out a ticket with how much the ticket won, it is possible it was a simple mistake but you never know...

The other day I was at the store and turned in 3 ($2) scratcher tickets worth $7 dollars. Two were $2 and one was $3.
