ok so collect with your current name... move someplace small... change your name... move again... change your name again... then move some place finally and rest there... of course you will have to remember all your name changes and hope that you dont get old-timers...

move to cincinatti - my new name #1: Jane Doe.

move to NYC - new name #2: Mary Jones.

move to final home place - that otta do it.

Do you have a link to various, or any, state lottery documentation saying they will go by the name on your last tax return? Or that they would post old plus new name?

All those places that need to know about your money will know, because whether you have your original name of Jake Smith or new name of Mike Sherman you will have the same SSN. Also I don't see why they would post Jake Smith's name, as he didn't win. Legally, Mike Sherman won. It's his name on the ticket.

Fellas,

All state lottos without the option of claiming anon go by the name as it appears on your last filed tax returns. They want to give all possible creditors such as IRS, Child support, lien holders, mortgage providers, foreclosure attorney etc. a fair opportunity to catch up with your defaulting ass.

Even if you changed your names they'll anounce as follows: 'old name' aka new name .

OMG..some of these names are hilarious...I remember as a kid, friends and I playing pratical jokes by calling places like Walmart and asking them to page some of these names over the intercom to come to the phone if they were in the store.....HAHA...the good ole' days...

You might have a little problem come tax time since your 1099 will bear one name while your investment, bank, and other financial accounts will have a different name for the same SSN. You would only be inviting a visit from the IRS and possible fraud charges from DMV.

Why on earth would one seek a name change just because came into some serious money? What one is called does not seem to be the problem, but what little demons one have in their closet and the people they allow to leech off them do seem to be the common denominators for those that qualify as candidates on Curse of the Lottery .

I only see name change necessary if one wants to pursue an acting or singing career.

This is what I would do. I would not tell a single person I won and hire an attorney. Change my name and and get a new California ID. Then claim using my new name. As soon as I get my money, I would have my name changed back. No one has to know about the name change if you don't say anything and the lottery can only use your legal name at the time you turned in the ticket.

If you change your name, you should probably get facial reconstruction, contact lenses with a new color, red will most likely keep the people away, get some fangs also, put a big sign on your house thats says Caution, Leper patient on the premises

No one will bother you, unless of course they don't know what leprosy is

If this is possible this is the best advice for people in those states that its mandatory for u too come fourth.

If u dont want the headaches its worth the time too investigate im sure lotteries would be against this.

Cause its dumbs the game down a lil bit but its actually makes it fun cause when have u seen a

russian name win a jackpots?

And the person is of another race lol 7 names equals 7 figures plus lol

I really like my name so no way I'd ever think about changing it.. However, I might contemplate getting a different address on identifcation so that it would appear that I lived in another city/state...I'd also disquise myself very well when collecting my check.....Of course, the extreme I would go through would all depend on the amount I won....

Or sign the ticket with the name you're going to change it to... and be denied the name change.

@haymaker, I think the cost to change it is a couple hundred. A little under $300 in Texas. At least it was the last time I looked. If you don't slack you should be able to have a new name along with a new ID and SSN card name change in less than a month.

Coin toss, going back about 15 years, they had a rule here that tix. cashed in a store had to be signed

no one took it seriously and everyone signed joke names of famous ppl.

I liked to sign it w/ Bill Clinton or maybe someone who was dead. LOL.

Name change is not that difficult, you can file the papers yourself,

please don't waste money on a lawyer for this, they charge $1500 and up for this, and you don't need them.

start by contacting your state's superior court for the county you live in,

they will give you further instructions.

Here's what you do.

Sign your ticket immediately when you buy it.

When you find out it's a jp winner get a legal name change, perhaps something like Pierre Gustav Tutant Beauregard or maybe Stanislaw Casmir Pulaski Adamczyk.

Then attempt to cash the ticket in the new name.

I've been wondering how beneficial it would be to change your name in the places that force you to do a photo op.

I guess if you can disguise yourself decently enough so that the picture they release doesn't look like how you normally look. Dye your hair or wear a different colored wig with different length of hair, wear glasses (if you do wear glasses, make them vastly different but nothing strange), make sure your clothes are bulky to help hide your true weight and maybe try to alter your s... I had planned on trying that. What I don't know, is if the lottery would insist on publishing the name you were known by at the time you won. I'm pretty sure previous names will come up when they search your social security number for back taxes, child support etc.
