Well said. I have seen clerks who can run circles around other workers with the amount of multitasking I see while waiting for my tickets. As a lottery player, I feel it is my responsibility to have my betslips filled out correctly and know the rules about the games. I would not last more than 30 seconds in a job like this.

Totally agree. What ticks me off here in my neck of the woods when it comes to store clerks dealing with the lottery is a place called Ranch 99 -its owned by a Chinese outfit, Chinese food, Chinese everything. The Clerks manning the lottery machine are another topic altogether. l wanted to cash in a ticket for a $80.00 win, and this girl has the audacity to ask another clerk what the sales tax is on $80.00? l almost wanted to pull her by the ear and tell her Hey- there is NO Tax on lottery wins

In NJ, we do not have bottle redemption. Players range from the barely adult to very senior guys. The game is so addicting no race or creed is exempt. Witness the Indian Muslim who was poisoned after winning a $1 Million scratch-off. In Central Jersey, I came upon this Indian guy who was scratching and running a tab and paid them off with his American Express. Its not supposed to be allowed but in that 1 store, I saw the guy did it. The scratch offs were charged as a purchase.

Scratch offs are better than slots. In scratch offs there is a fix set, in NJ its $300 worth of tickets per set. Each set has differing prizes, between 50-60% of $300 per set. Its rare that you will encounter a set which goes below that or more (prizes exceeds $300). In slots you do not know where the set begins and ends.

Many players I have seen collect bottles and I see them almost everyday collecting, returning, and scratching.

If I was a clerk, I know these people would piss me off eventually.

Very interesting when you put the shoe on the other foot, and see it from their POV.

I will definately think differently when I go into another store again.

However keep in mind the Lottery should be the main concern as some of these stores are making a killing in lottery sales, So much so they have TWO machines. and sully is right many stores should and do have two clerks.

I am a problem gamer and I have excluded myself from most casinos. Now I find myself hanging out in our local store playing scratch offs all day. As such, I play so much, I am like the cops in that I get free coffee from the store.

I understand the frustration some of us may have with the clerks getting their bets wrong but if you consider what these people do and for how much, you would be either in awe or be very angry.

That happenned to me once! At first I was livid.

Really laid into him. But we made up. Now if I ask he lets me use the machine.

I had to forgive him. There are no other late night stores I can go to in a pinch.

NJ just legalized online gaming. The State Lottery will not be far behind in announcing its online presence. Already some states allows players to pick their numbers online. Very soon it will be here.

Dopey clerks can be annoying and aggravating.

But the ones who try to rip you off and then play dumb when you catch them are intolerable.

It makes you wonder how often they get away with it.

But states like Tennessee couldn't care less how many naive players are being ripped off as long as their bottom line isn't affected.

Filling out play slips isn't a courtesy if you are a system player, it's a necessity.

When I traveled to Michigan to play BigGame before it came to Ohio as MegaMillions, I got my tickets at a truck stop that only took verbal orders of lottery tickets that were QPs, any custom orders had to be made with play slips and a sign was posted stating that policy.

What's a superstraight?

I'd rather have them ask questions than print out the wrong ticket which can't be cancelled. But I always do them the courtesy of filling out a play slip so I seldom have a problem.

I want and how I want them. I don't like giving lessons on what superstraight is or how

to make a $5 ticket straight. If you can't count - think - perform then stay away from

Clerks and anyone else working in a store selling lottery tickets are required to know anything about lotteries because they aren't agents of the lottery.

That was the decision of an Ohio court a few years ago when a player bought twenty Buckeye5 tickets that matched five and expected to get two millions dollars since winning tickets usually paid one hundred thousands dollars each but found out there was a cap of one million dollars on total payouts and sued the store owner and clerk for not... OK, here's today's clerk and me interaction. I expected young girls and ladies, but, today there was fresh face at local 7-11, older East Indian man. Another time clerk told me I missed placing third number, in all four tickets. How can one do that, in one ticket, perhaps, but not all four? She did not get it that I simply forgot to mark Back Pair option. When I did mark Back Pairs, she was surprised, she did not even know that in Cash 3 one can choose pairs instead of all three numbers.

A couple of years back, while buying my weekly Missouri Lotto tickets, the girl behind the counter ran one of my multiple playslips twice... Apparently, she did not know how to void out the extra ticket, and said she would just buy it herself.

I had a place in a country town that didnt allow you to do scratchers inside, as they had to vacuum the carpet afterwards. they where the only lotter agent in that Town. I took my business with me to next town 100km away when i could.

There is this one guy that works at the store I frequent that I try to avoid whenever possible. He's kinda new so I do try to cut him some slack but I actually grind my teeth when I pull up and see him behind the counter. What about clerk getting his phone, calling someone while you stand there in front of him reday to be served? Most confused I get when those clerks have heavy East Indian accent. Anyone can understand what they are saying? Even more, they talk without looking at you, so you don't know if words are addressed to you, or someone behind your back, or to their God. My response usually is: I hold my breath for a moment and my eyes get big and no solution is coming my way, except smiling.

For starters, not all store and gas station owners are all that smart, they hire whom ever they can find that will work for low wages.

A smart owner would would hire one person to handle gas and food transactions, while the other person would handle lottery transactions.

Sometimes you have spend money to make money, I would make it clear to my employees, if I am making money, you will make money.

I dislike going to gasstations with Indian( East Indies) clerks, it's like you have to pull their smile with the plyers, because they seem to be so burdened by their job, and if you buy tickets for 50c you'll read a smerk on their face, or rather a hint of disquast.

Today I've seen two funny clerks. One was skinny blondy with few missing teeth, with a massy brade. She was nice, though. Next to her was working middle age lady with heavy Western accent, who did not know what symbol X means on C... [ More ]
