I actually risked being pulled over by heading out to Westford MA late Saturday morning (11:30 AM), to pick up my significant other.

I went by a state trooper, and two local cops without so much as a glance in my direction.

Got a feeling this ban was more of a scare tactic to keep 95% of most people off the roads.

The storm has disrupted my sister's travel plans. She's a grad student in Boston and came home for the weekend (this was planned long before the blizzard showed up). She was supposed to go back today but the combination of her train being cancelled and the T being shut down have resulted in her delaying her departure until tomorrow.

i was mandated to not leave the house.. i think my family was afraid that i would not be able to follow my own snow prints home... :) we are still 'suggested' to stay home today... and public transit is not available till tomorrow. fortunately my neighbor came by with hot Dunkin' Donuts coffee and breakfast sandwiches this A.M. (no electricity at home - hoping that 'puter battery life remains good) - 32 degrees in the house (26 degrees warmer than outside) - but nice and 'snuggly' inside next to... [ More ]

What was put into place was a driving ban; you could still walk to the store for your precious lottery tickets if you so desired (assuming the store was open, which was not a guarantee).

As of 4 PM Friday afternoon, MA Governor Deval Patrick signed an executive order effectively banning vehicles from ALL roadways until further notice.

Exceptions would be for health or safety emergencies, or state workers responding to blizzard related work tasks.

Penalties for any driver caught in violation of this ban. Up to one year in jail and $500 fine.

Hopefully most players anticipated this unprecedented decision, and got all their tickets yesterday.
