I agree also. It's not just that I don't want to have to say no (although that's part of it), it's that there are too many dangerous people in this world. What you have to worry about the most are people who will hurt (or even kill) you, or a loved one, to get at your money. No I am perfectly capable to walk into the lottery headquarters and fill out paper work and wait for my check by myself but I would take my mother so that we could get a picture together of the big check. Yes, and that someone would be from the Jackpot Winners Protection Program.

The JWPP would go to the press conference for you and handle all correspondence for you. The JWPP would get a small percentage of the jackpot fopr doing this and keeping you sheltered. They'd just represent you and there wouldn't be questions about who is paying the tax on the winnings, you are.

In your scenario in the OP I can just see a lotterty commission saying whatever individual accepts the check pays the tax... [ More ]
