I doubt a Canadian would go to California to play the lottery but I'm willing to bet most states have a similar policy.

It would be denounced as a typical subhuman barbaric and savage act of Canadian aggression.

There would be an uproar to get those greasy and greedy Canadians and the B52s would be in the air in no time!

That's what would happen.

Depending on the state they would have to pay the full state income taxes on it along with the full federal income taxes on it.

I saw a number of people trying to figure out how to use one of those lottery machines at Giant (supermarket). I never see anyone using it normally. I bet it was the first time they played. Guess they figure if a ticket from a machine in Richmond, VA can win, why not somewhere else in VA. PB fever

according to the 2013 Winners Handbook, page 5 from the California lottery's website:

The Lottery is required to withhold federal taxes of 25% for U.S. citizens and resident aliens providing a social security number, and 28% for U.S. citizens and resident aliens not providing a social security number. Claimants who do not mark the citizenship status on the Lottery Claim Form will have 30% withheld from all prizes.

I doubt if any US state and Canada have reciprocity, tho they might. I would guess they'd have to pay the state tax in the state they bought the ticket in, unless there is some reciprocity agreement in place.

I know there's been at least one case of an American winning a Canadian lottery and they threatened to stay in Canda to avoid the U.S. taxes but I'm not sure if they got it on or not.

I remember a news interview where the winner said he'd be OK with listening to O Canada at the start of baseball games.

Just for curiosity, what happens if a Canadian wins the PB, in regards to taxes and anonynimity?

I know they'd have to pay U.S. federal taxes, but since Canada does not tax gambling wins would they have to pay any Candian nation or provincial taxes?

Just curious, as I'm sure there's people from Canada crossing into the U.S. to play PB with this jackpot.

I'd say coming south but not all Candians live north of some Americans
